setting up air conditioning in grow room

I have a window AC unit that I am pipeing into my grow room. Unit is in the window about 5-7 ft from my closet. I adapted the output vent to 6" duct work going into my closet. Question is..... This is a Energy Star unit, it cuts off (not just compressor, completely cuts off)when it reaches temperature. How do I extend the Temp sensor into my grow room from the front of the unit. It is a metal solid wire, i need to extend it about 10 ft so the unit will cut off properly.

Thanks.....

energy star just means the compressor and fan kick off at the same time.

if you feel you can just splice a longer wire in there and you have the expertise then by all means. personally i just used a mechanical knob a/c with a day/night climate controller inside the closet. its all about the right tool for the right job. i then took my digital a/c that i WAS gonna use and that's now my bedroom a/c.

does it have a digital temp control? or like an analog manual setup?

if its not a digital setup you can get a thermostat from sentinel for like $50 put it on an extension cord into your closet and that will be your new thermostat for the unit, it will turn on when its hotter then the temp you selected and turn off when it gets below or reaches the temp you set it at

Let us know if you decide to splice the sensor and extend the wires into the closet. I would like to see how it works out. Let us know if so, thanks!

Open the front grill, you will see a wire with a small flat or round bulb at its end. This is in front of the return air intake coils. It senses the return air ambient temperature and controls the AC.

At the moment I am trying to figure this out, to splice into and extend the sensor closer to the center of the grow room so that the AC remains online until the ambient (78F daytime/65F night time) is maintained.

This old man needs some professional input on the issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A tip: Keep an eye on the ducting running from the ac into the closet.

Make sure there isn't any condensation.

I extended my sensor and added ducting to allow the ac to run warmer and better disperse the cool air. (My sensor is 2 wires not a single copper wire.)

This ended up not working. Because The moisture was building up on the ducting.

My ac also got frozen.

The temp sensor being extended did work for me.

So the point is be carefull fro moisture buildup, this can wreak havoc on RH and make an enviroment for MOLD!! not good.

Another method I have used to trick a window ac.

Duct the hot air from the dehumidifer onto the temp sensor. Therefore the ac thinks it is hot and runs colder.

Or maybe try running the sensor below a light. That will issue a higher temp and get the ac to work harder.

Play with it to get the temps you need.

On the old an forums someone rigged up a digital thermostat to control the window AC. That way you could put the digital thermostat in the center of the room.

Most thermostats I researched were for central AC.
