I have an old furnace thats not hooked up and could use exhaust for one of those free standing AC units. From What iv seen they can be procured for 300. What do you think?
From what I have read they are garbage. They dont cool very well, suck out CO2 in sealed rooms etc. I am confident you will get similiar replies
Buy a window unit and build an A/C box and exhaust it to the furnace. You have to make sure the exhaust flows the right way when it gets into the furnace exhaust
Portable units really blow, including most dual-hose units from what I've gathered. The single hose ones are really bad... creates a negative pressure like a mofo, sucks so much room air out.
Just another vote against portable .They are very inefficient
If you look @ the A/C guide in the sticky section of this forum you will see they cut the rating in 1/2 on the portable units .So if you needed a 10,000 btu unit to cool room you would need 20,000 btu of portable A/C to cool 10,000 btu's of equipment .If you are using A/C to cool room and enrich with CO2 portables are a waste of space and electricity as stated above they exhaust stinky room air and all your co2 if you are enriching .I learned the hard way Thought it would be great to have a dehumidifyer A/C heater combo (thats what my portable does )I was wrong it used as much power as a 1 k light and sucked all my stinky air out making my 2 carbon filter fan combos useless cause the A/C was sucking it all out before they could do there job
