Hi, Has anyone tried growing AF's in those smartpot type containers? I'm thinking of giving them a try and see if they like them since they do love to grow their roots long.

They are wonderful..........Do a search on smartpots and you will find info here on them. I've done side by side comparisons with a normal container and there is no comparison.

ive heard the growth increase starts after some intial root development and after a month is when u see the gains, is this right?

Smartpots are the only way to go. Auto's love them. I have not found a lot of difference in the growth rate of the 1 gallon vs the 2 gallon though. A little bit, but not much.

I've got 8 auto ak-47s that are now one week old 4 are in 2g plastic pots and 4 are in 2g smartpots. Everything but the containers will be the same.

I've got about 300 2 gallon smartpots, they're the bomb. GH now makes an 8" round coco cap that fits inside the top edge perfectly, nice and tight, keeps bugs out and coco moist. Yes roots air prune, they're very durable, compact into nothing, and I can wash them with some vinegar in my washing machine and they come out looking like new. I'll never use anything else!

I dont recall reading the results of this little test, Rose. How did it turn out for you? Ive got a couple hundered of these guys around for my nursery, and never thought of using them indoor for herbs. They are fabulous for nursery stock production. The fibers on the inner walls of the bag catch the root tips, and prevent them from circling. As the root penetrates the wall of the bag, it is either girdled by the bag, or in the indoor grow scenario, the outside air. This causes the root to branch somewhere back inside the soil mass, and works to promote a very dense, fibrous root system that tends to exploit the entirety of the soil contained in the pot. Hell, when I plant some of my nursery stock for customers, I am amazed at the difference in the smart pot root systems vs. standard plastic. I would have to think a similar positive would occur for indoor mj. I will be potting up my Bluestreaksthis weekend, and they will certainly be going into smart pots. Would love to hear your results Rose:abduct:

They will be at week six on Friday. So far I'm not all that impressed but then two of the four in the bags turned out to be male, the third is a runt. I need to do another run.

Sorry to hear that, Bro:mad: I would'nt blame the bags though. give em another shot, as they may be a boost for autos. Seeing that roots are the key for this plant, anything that favors them has got to be good for everything else. I will repot on what I see with mine once they get in there.

My advice for smartpots is, veg and water sparingly until you see a handful of roots poking out of the bag (at least 15-20) Then you are ready to flip to 12/12 if desired.
