Seems like Summer is Here ... Started Watering Accordingly.

Yesterday my back patio was doing a good impression of August summer weather.

Plants wilting even though they are in a heavy bucket (bucket has some water).

Animal-watering dishes DRY.

This morning I hooked up the hoses and moved into summer watering routine. Actually only 2 cannabis plants outside and 8 1/2 inside. The rest are fruit trees, shade trees, & misc. vegies.

I was paying too much attention to temperatures, and not enough to water evaporation rates. The temperatures told me, oh it's OK it's only in the 70's.

WRONG !!!

I got caught completely off guard. I thought I was going to lose some vegies. Limp-dick lettuce, totally wilted, thought it was a goner.

Watered everything yesterday, moved it out of the sun.

Most of the lettuce survived their torture. Lettuce leaves are now standing tall.

Because of my almost-started-a-forest-fire experience last week, and seeing how the plants are getting hammered now, you know I think that geographical summer (the kind that affects plants & animals) is HERE.

"You are now growing pot on Tatooine" (the desert planet in Star Wars.)

Thought this is interesting - the underground hotel where they filmed the scenes where Luke is eating with his aunt & uncle

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatooine

"George Lucas originally envisaged filming the Utapau/Tatooine scenes in Algeria (inspired by Michelangelo Antonioni's 1975 film The Passenger), Libya or Iran, but these locations were rejected by 20th Century Fox. When production began on Star Wars, production designers John Barry and Robert Watts scouted for filming locations in Morocco and Tunisia. Lucas, accompanied by producer Gary Kurtz visited the Tunisian Island of Djerba with them and were impressed by the desert landscape and the unusual architecture, and selected Tunisia to provide the desert planet setting. Lucas was also keen to shoot at the Hotel Sidi Driss in Matmata, a decision which extended the shoot by a day and consequently the budget. Filming in Tunisia began on 22 March 1976 and immediately ran into difficulty: the region was experiencing its first heavy rainfall in seven years, which disrupted the setting of an arid desert planet.[8]"
