If you look at the top left of the first pic above, you might notice that I moved the carbon scrubber over to that end of the room. You can also get a sense of how shortening the table by approximately 6" and moving the scrubber has given me significantly more headroom.

(continued in next post. Can only put 5 images per post now. Hope they change that back!)

I've got the lights up high right now since the plants have been getting next to no light while they were rooting. My plan is to lower the lights a few inches a day until the bottom of the lamp is right above the plants on the top layer.

Feel free to make suggestions.

Thanks for stopping by!

looks like you have ben doing a little more than sitting and waiting for clones to root ..... nice work!

you should play some other music though ......... could we call it a rock-n-roll ball from now on?

Heh. As long as we don't call it a "country ball" i'm down. I'm too young to have listened to Disco except ironically.

I remember Mythbusters did an episode a while back where they played music for some plants and no music for others. The plants with music all did better. But the plants that got death metal did better than the plants that got classical....

Makes you go "hmmm?"

Looking good

Nice and organized...

This run is sure to impress

Thanks homie!

classic black sabbath is the closest i've got to death metal, but i'll give it a shot.

do you think warren zevon could be responsible for my strange growth pattern(s)

I don't have any death metal albums, either.

I do have some Black Sabbath, and I am thinking I might just throw an old CD player in with the plants just for giggles.

Here's links to the full mythbusters episode:

Part I:

Part II:
[youtubeif]FhsbM9LxPAk[/youtubeif]

Basically, they built 5 small greenhouses on the roof of their building and grew peas in them. Then they exposed the plants to different sounds.

  • One Control Greenhouse got no sound at all.
  • One had a soft female voice saying encouraging things
  • Another had an angry female voice shouting and saying mean things
  • One with classical music
  • One with death metal

The death metal plants grew larger peas and yielded more weight.
Plants exposed to music did better than plants exposed to human speech.
All the plants with sound did better than the control.

(At around 4:20 in the first video you can get a sample of the death metal they were playing.)

Maybe if you were playing THIS one... :)

Well I gotta say, I'm pretty pleased with the new watering setup.

I haven't got them on timers at the moment. I'm still monitoring the situation and trying to dial the shut-off valves so I don't waste any more juice than necessary. But I gotta say... watering is as simple as checking pH, setting a countdown on my stop watch, flipping a switch and then flipping it back off when the countdown timer rings.

It's TOO easy. :)

I lowered the lights last night and again just now. By tomorrow night the bottoms of the lamps will be just about even with the top tier.

Temps are fluctuating between 81 F during lights on and 68 F with lights off with humidity levels in the 50% range. The new fans allow me to get very close to the bulbs without even really noticing the heat. So far so good!

^^^ The Left side of my cab has a little extra space (to make it easier to take the table in and out of the cabinet) which meant that any light that made it past the plants on the left side had to travel an extra foot before hitting a reflective surface. I took a scrap of reflectix, some cardboard and some duct tape and made a free standing wall reflector for the left-most plants. ^^^

there is a link for a timer that i found .... post #724. if you are working with a stop watch already then dialing that thing in would be simple. if it does what it says it will do it would free up a bunch of your time.

the new improved table looks great!

I have a timer that I can set for up to 20 on/off cycles per day, 7 days a week. Minimum of 1 minute increments. I was looking at purchasing something along the lines of the item in post #724 when Bobble suggested that I simply put an inline shut-off valve between the pump and the table. This allows me to divert up to half the output from the pump back into the res, which has the effect of running my pumps at "half strength". This way, if I want 30 seconds worth of water to come out in 1 minute, I just leave the inline shut-off valves fully open. The valves cost me about $2 each. Can't beat that!

I'll probably hook the pumps to timers in the next few days. Just wanna get a feel for low-to-no-runoff and exactly what that will require.

the new improved table looks great!

Thanks! I wish it didn't take so long to get to this stage but, fuck it, we're here, might as well run with it now. :)

Steal away! Took about 5 minutes to make it. Don't know why I didn't do it sooner.

I thought fred's rule was that I had to keep night-time temps within 10 degrees of day time temps. I guess he'll smack me in the head with a bucket if I'm wrong.

Respect!

Here is a tip:

If you ain't got a fan controller - get one. I had some troubles with low temperatures and too dry air in vegetative period which all went away with a simple controller. There is a lot to choose from and i just happen to have the one which reduces fan speed in the wrong way - but it works.

Wrong: Same technique which is used in light dimmers. Causes slight buzzing sound.
Right: Costs a bit more but it does not cause buzzing.

So here is the deal: Use it in veg and bypass it after ~4-5 weeks in flower. When you do not extract any more air than necessary humidity raises - growth rate rises and temps are always where you want em to be. This way you can even upgrade your exhaust with no noticeable difference in dBs. Then again upgraded exhaust will help you if and when you're starting to see those donkey dicks that we all love cause then you'll need a lot more ventilation capacity. I've seen a couple of a times moldy buds simply because of hitting the golden pot with new strain / new gear and ignorance of taking care of the need for better ventilation. Not a pretty sight.

Minor investment - huge benefit.

Maybe Freds or someone with a bit more experience could chime in and correct my disinformation - because after all it's just me. Minor league player.

Glad to see that you're on top of things. Just recently set up coco no waste circulating system (also going to run a side by side with drippers and free flow irrigation) which has proven itself elsewhere. Tossed blumats but no worries - they're going to make my tomatoes look good soon.

PEACE.
