Seeds

Hi. I fully pollinated a female with male pollen last year, to see how many seeds I could make just out of curiosity. I had a clone of an indica mom in a 7L pot, the clone was around 30 cm tall. Fully pollinated it and it made over 700 mature seeds.

Haven't tried reversals yet. From what I read it's a lot less seeds, and even then it's strain dependent.

i've crossed some reversals that make just white seed/ junk ,sad.

When it comes to reversing it really depends on the plant.

Cuts like TK and MAC are notoriously known for not producing many if any female seed.

Some you can expect to be more generous.

There's no exact answer to that.

Timing is key for some strains. Typically pollination is done too early naturally indoors. Best to introduce the pollen around week 3-4., sometimes later. Or you end up with a lot of unripe seed and less of it. Not always easy to do of course.

So if you flower male and female plants at the same time in the same space will this equate to about 3-4 weeks for natural pollination or is it best to stagger the introduction of 12/12 flowering cycle somehow?

If you leave males and females flower at the same time, the males will drop the pollen too soon when the females will still have few flowers to receive the pollen.

You can either make the males flower first in another room and store the pollen for a week or 2, or you can also prune the male's flowers so he will have to grow new shoots with new flowers again which will leave some time for the females to have made more flowers to receive the pollen. Storing the pollen for a few days is easier and gives you more control. You just wait for day 20-24 and pollinate then.

Not usually no, the males tend to drop pollen before the females have developed much in most strains. Yes staggering a male a week or two behind in another tent is ideal. Also it can take females longer then their usual flowering time to produce nice ripe seeds, so give ‘em time.

Yeah that’s right, although in a small tent trimming back the male isn’t usually enough. Any amount of pollination on a female totally changes their mood and production of seed it seems. It can help however, just trim all the early male pre flowers also. And don’t be afraid to be brutal on the trim job haha.

I like throwing the male in the veg/mother tent for a week or so when I flip the flower tent and then moving him back.

Thanks guys, I beleive I will just start the female into flower 2 weeks before I introduce the males into the flowering cycle. I will attempt to collect and store any extra male pollen for future pollination needs.

What are some of the best technique to have fully developed seeds.
You don't need to do much really just keep the mom happy and give her time.

But if you insist on doing something, plants use nitrogen to form the seeds, so if you don't care about the quality of the bud and only want the seeds, don't cut all nitrogen. I have also read some people go back to 18/6 when the seeds are underway. Maybe 4-5 weeks after the pollination. But you don't really need to do that.

After i pollinated my last plant, nearly all the fan leafs turned yellow in less than 24h! So i hastily bought a mineral fertilizer(it was a bio grow ^^) to 'rescue' the seed run... But like Revegeta said, it's longing the bud growth, so it took + 1 week more in total flowering time. I would pollinate in about week 3, perfect timing and there then are enough hairs.

Thanks fellas, is there truth to letting them go long as to have the seeds falling out on there own. Just don't want to get ahead of myself and have immature seeds.

They fall out when the weed is dry... knock the buds on the table and seeds easily will come out. You can see if they are ripe, the calyxes will open and the seeds are getting dark. You can pull some out before harvest if you are unsure.
