in my fridge, I have a plastic case that has a rubber seal all around and robust locking tabs. It's not big but it hold a pile of beans. I also add dessicant packs.

in the freezer, I have these aluminum tubes that are from old military flares, about a foot long with threaded cap. They are about an inch and a 1/2 inside diameter and also hold a pile of seed packs and dessicant. I have 4 of those , buried in the freezer, held at a constant -18C.

I use tupperware with dessicant beads in the fridge. I've only been doing this for a couple of years but so far so good.

30cal or 50cal ammo can insulated with bubble foil & foam board.

Never store seeds in a frost free freezer. The freeze thaw cycle has the potential to destroy seed viability.

Chimera mentioned he stores seeds at 4C so that they never experience freeze/thaw cycles. Good advice coming from a top of the class breeder.

I encourage you to use the search function as well.

I heard from a guy on another board that you can thaw out seeds and they stay viable, he has seeds from 40 years that still germ. I do not want to take the chance though. I am going to put my seeds in the middle of a bag of ice, so the defrost cycle does not affect them.

If you are going to germ them within say, 5 years, the fridge would do well enough.

While I don't meet the definition of a "breeder" by many folks standards, I do consider myself a hobby breeder , yes. I find it extremely gratifying to not only harvest the buds and hash, but the seed as well. I enjoy exploring the crosses for individual standouts that offer new tastes and aromas to my stash. I grow for pleasure and medicine and don't sell my harvest.
I have no plans to become a seed breeder/seller, but you never know what the future may bring. It was drilled into my head very early in my weed growing learning curve, that everything good comes from a seed ;)

For long term storage, I sometimes just mix the Cannabis seeds with long grain white rice
as a natural desiccant and store in an air tight container placed in my refrigerator.

But this time around I may try something extra. I just planted some yellow wax beans today
and they were covered with a pinkish looking fungicide. It's mild fungicide called Captan which
aids germination during the Spring. The treatment prevents rot while the seeds are germinating.

So I'm thinking that I will store some of my newly forming Cannabis seeds with some of these
Captan treated yellow wax bean seeds that I didn't plant. This way my Cannabis seeds may
be protected lightly from fungi because of the treated beans. Also the beans will act as
natural desiccant like the rice I normally use.

:tiphat:

Hey corky, (& anybody else that may be affected)
If you are an organic grower,
Be aware that factory coated seeds are not allowed to be used in organic crop production per the NOP. For what reasons idk, exactly. I would advise that you don't store your "organic seeds" with those that are not.

I thought I'd mention this because there are a lot of organic growers on these boards that are purists. Use the info as you see fit. ;)

As an example... None of Greenhouses seeds would be able to be used in commercial organic crop production simply because they are coated.

Ok, well I won't be doing that then. :moon:

...i guess it never occurred to you that this topic might have been covered like 60,000,000 times? ...so even a cursory search would have led you too all the answers you need and in much greater detail?

...the search function is your friend grasshopper and the more proactive you become in your quest for knowledge, the faster you will learn.

...how bad do you want this? ...bad enough to start hunting for your answers while you wait? ...or will you just sit and wait and hope someone shares the answer with you?

...i'm not trying to be a dick either bro, i'm actually trying to help you take charge, ...if i didn't care i'd have just ignored your thread.

peace, bozo

I read most of the stuff that was on vapes and then started a thread asking about vapes. I got the same response as you. I wanted more info on the subject and hoped new info had come out.

No luck, had to go to another site where there was relevant info. Point being, some have already searched, most no of course.

...yeah, vaporizors are technological and therefore subject to improvements and such, storing seeds on the other hand is pretty basic stuff.

...plus, my intent was NOT to discourage the asking of questions but rather to suggest that searching for answers is usually more fruitfull than waiting for them.

anyway, here is what i came up with with a simple search for 'seed storage'.
