seedlings root bound in solo cups?

i started 4 Bubbledust seeds on 2-12-09. 3 made it up and out. i started them in peat pucks and then i put them in to party solo cups.

I started noticing drooping leaves this last week, so today when i got a sec i dumped out one of the seedlings and this is what i saw. (see pic) The plant is only about 4 inches high. I was just wondering if it is possible that they would be bound already? I know lots of people that run their whole grows in a pop bottle. I dont understand how if they bottom out so easily? i want to transplant these into the 32 oz Gatorade cups but i am afraid that they are going to bottom out to fast before i can find out the sex. my first grow i didnt have any problems with the roots and i did my whole plant start to finish in one 6" diameter x 5" tall plastic pot. (it was like a foot and a half tall)

Just want some opinions on what to do. I am trying to sart a prenup SOG (DrBud style) harvest if i can get a nice female. but if they are bottoming out so fast i may need to rethink my options.

I know there are alot of different things that can cause dropping leaves but i wanted to start with this first because if will mess up my whole plan if i cannot run a small container:dueling:

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks sticky

are you vegging them?

why not start from 12/12 right off the bat?

Does dr bud veg at all? for some reason I thought he didn't with that style

Only issue I have with the party cups is yes they will get root bound BUT if you water them LESS but more frequently it seems to do the trick, as in don't drench them because all the roots at the bottom but rather water them let them perk up, once they droop, water again and continue. It is a pain in the ass in my opinion and an easy way out of it is to transplant into something larger.

I tried that style but instead went a bit larger with 2 liters, you can flower in there no problem and odds are you can flower in a damn shot glass if you had the time to water/dry/water/dry all the damn time.

Please fill out the infirmary form

heady - im not that worried about them i know they are in good condition i am going to trans plant them anyway i just wanted to know if that was a good example of being root bound. I appreciate your concern for my babys :joint:

medmaker- i am veggin because they are from seed and i need a mother plant :) then i will do the doc style.

Thanks everyone!!!

In small cab SOGs, lack of roots can be an extraordinarily good thing. Do you know you want them larger? Because bigger cups mean bigger roots which means bigger plants. For ScrOG or LST you certainly want bigger: you want every plant to occupy as much horizontal space as possible. For a DrBud type grow, the key is numbers, you want to cram them in there with as little horizontal spread as you can manage.

Without seeing you make a run through, I'd say bigger pots is counter productive to your growing style.

so your saying that if i water them with less water just more often the roots will stay smaller and allow for smaller pots? I thought the DrBud followers were doing the submerging in larger pots\buckets of water then letting them drain? i wonder why they are not having root troubles? or is this just because i am starting from seed? aka longer veg time. I wanna sex these babies so i can pick a mother. one of the 3 seems to have funny looking leaves. i am guess this is what you call a mutant. get a pic of that tomorrow.
