thanks sandman .... never done it this way before so I was kinda worried...
they were gonna go hydro ... thats why I used rockwool but the current systems still busy flowering for a bit so I hought I'd try a few soil grows whilst I wait! lol

rockwool is one of the best ways to grow seeds and clones ,,i get 99% success and the 1% is what i dont want/need

nice and eazy,,,formulex and rhizotonic ec 1.0 ph 5.6- 5.8 = :woohoo: clones in under 2 weeks

Hazy ... same here mate I have never had a seed not germinate in rockwool ... in fact the only times I have are in soil !? lol

but what about placing these seedlings in rockwool into a pot with soil?
the main reason is no space but lots of soil !

Yeah man, I just did it.

10 Lifesaver cuts rooted in rockwool 15 days after a transplant into Promix. They looked similar to hazys above when I transplanted.

what else was u thinking of doing with them ?

i start them in the rw then go either bigger rw or straight into coco (soil in your case) depending on situation,,whichever method is down to u as the gaffer of your grow ,,personally i'd stop with the soil and get some coco make life a little easier lol

I was gonna put em into a hydro system but the last beauts took soooo long in flower it messed up my transplant so they go into soil ,.... he he he

thanks for the info eveyone ....

basically my only concern was the stems being able to hold them selves up or would the rockwool give and let em lean or break .... but they seem fine

thanks for all replies everyone!

They'll be fine. The roots will still spread out just like they were in straight soil and be plenty to hold em. I've got some 5' tall plants that started in 1" RW cubes and the RW has basically disentigrated at this point.

Even though coco is a "hydro" medium, you can hand water it just fine (just like soil)...so you don't have to have a "hydro" type setup to run it...I've got about 80 plants that are being hand watered in coco right now until they go outdoors. It's actually probably the best non soil medium for hand watering since you get all the benefits of hydro without the requirements of super frequent watering. Give it a try on one plant...I think you'll like it.

Do you think that Cocotek cubes are about the same way then? Or just loose fill?

Honestly I've never used the cubes. I believe that the pre-formed cubes are a little more "airy" than the compressed stuff that you rehydrate (which I use) which will mean more often waterings. I've been using the Botanicare stuff for several years in pots and my small clones (<1') can go 5-7 days between waterings in 6x6x6 pots with the brick stuff and they never seem to run into overwatering problems even if I feed them daily.

Even with no added perlite? Badass!

Yup...no perlite at all. If they're going in a recirculating drip system, I'll put a thin layer of hydroton in the very bottom of the pot to help with drainage and keep the coco from washing out of the pots.

Hi all

Well i used rockwool for the first time earlier,Thought it was really easy to work with(i imagined it would fall apart and not hold it's shape)

I had read before to not use the center holes(the pre made ones)But to make your own holes more to one side(at least i think i read that!!!)

Mmm also the cubes themselves were quite small,so got a lot into a small space..
I soaked the cubes,Then shook the water out of each one(with one sharp shake)
So they were still wet(but not dripping)
I will probs need to water the cubes in a few days?(They are in a hum dome tho)
Anyway took some pics
And will deff use rockwool again(Btw i plan on putting them then into soil when i can(like the OP plans)

Hi Delta
I put clones that were in 3" rockwoll into soil and everythig went fine, in fact i hear rockwool helps the tap root spread out more rather than just go straight down (which gives you more time before your plants are rootbound). Just make sure you elevate the cubes slightly (1-2") and dont water as much on the cubes themselves, but rather around them, you dont want the cubes to be drenched all the time otherwise they might rot and you can get root problems...
:2cents:
