Seedlings a Little Unhappy - Mag? Zinc?

Not too worried at this point, but wanted some opinions.

Five strains/30 seedlings or so.... all under three 100W cheapie CFLs. Oscillating fan. Temps 70-74. pH checks out fine in water and in runoff.

70% of the seedlings are fine (see pics) but 30% are showing some signs of being unhappy (see pics). Not strain-specific.

First started about a week ago. Foliar fed with Epsom salts and a mild solution of seaweed extract. Also gave them a watering with some molasses. That kicked the growth rate into gear (with a little bit of nute burn in lower leaves) but this wrinkled texture and intervenal chlorosis hasn't improved.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

The only thing thats coming to mind based on what you mentioned is too much food for the light available. Your close enough.. might as well get a 400w hid.

I have two 400s but can't run them for security reasons. I think both of you guys know the story actually, but it's a considerable risk for me to have just this one rubbermaid tub full of seedlings running indoors right now.

I thank ya for the input though. It does look like something they'll grow out of, but I'm still curious.

For record keeping purposes here, and hopefully to help out someone in the future, I think (but don't pretend I'm absolutely right about this) that what my plants are showing is a Zinc issue caused not by a lack of Zinc in the soil, but by a combination of relatively cold soil temperature , maybe slight overwatering, and slight excess of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and probably trace elements, specifically Magnesium.

The problem started right at the point where you'd expect the microorganisms to be booming and processing the nutes in the soil (about 14 days after the soil was mixed)... and then when I fed with a shot of molasses and foliar of Kelp and Epsom (all of which will get the microherd populations and nute availability going), the problem sort of bumped up a notch. I think as those other nutrients/elements kicked into gear, the Zinc issue became more apparent.

That's my hunch, anyway. Hopefully the pics and info might help someone else in the future.

that does not look like a deficiency to me, looks more like a mutation! The plants are happy and healthy as hell man!

Stop foliar feeding them, it only works when you need to give the nutrients to them quickly and or when they are seedlings.

yeah they are okay man if they are still growing day to day. i'm with stitch!

do they feel very soft and thin? they are proably a little nute shy since there isn't much light. don't worry about feeding them via leaf that young! in your pics.. i can't see the coty's.. what's your coty's look like?? :D

also maybe try to step up to 150w (42 real watts) cfl. they are about 8 or 9 bucks but they put out a lot of lumens i think compared with 100's! they are the smallest light i'll mess with and i like to get them reel close and nicely positioned.. and one for each plant.. otherwise they seem to cause slow growth that is very dark and waxy but is far to thin or substancial.. its strange.. i put a foot tall fairly mature male under a single 42w cfl and the thing slowed waay down and had super thin waxy leaves.

Thanks fellers.

It does look like a mutation, but like I said, these are five different strains from five different breeders. They did need to be fed quickly though... they were showing classic Mag def. symptoms, intervenal chlorosis.

I've never grown under CFLs before, and I suspect it would take some getting used to to make the seedlings 100% happy. They'll be under the Sun in another 10 days and they'll be smiling then.

Peace-

I agree with Verite...too much feeding for too little light.

Maybe a little overwatered.

But I think they'll grow out of it easily enough.

Sunshine ~ on their shoulders ~ will make them happppeeeeeee!

Dude I am curious....if it is a security risk to run the 400 Watts why grow??? Those plants are more then ready for the 400 watters. I have my seedlings under 400 watts from the time the seeds pop.

People always say veg first couple weeks under flours...but I choose to skip that step and just put them under 400 watts right away with no harm done ever except maybe a little stretch. But oh well if they strech during veg or the strech during flower either way it is still strech.

As far as the problem goes I think your worried about nothing....those seedlings look fine.....maybe a little mutant but other then that fine.

Do yourself a favor stop trying to create problems....they will come soon enough, if they don't consider yourself lucky.
