hello, i just planted 6 seeds i got, in rockwool cubes, i tought i had planted them in the right direction, but now the roots are comming from the top of the cube, and not gowing down like they should, the root tip is appearing on the top of the cube...

what should i do??

thanks

You must live in an anomalous area cause gravity isn't working around there, you should report that to science. The root tip will always grow downward, a plant's cells have gravity sensors which tell seeds and their tap root all they need to know when underground. If you actually did manage to grow them upside down, congrats , and like everyone has said already, they will figure their shit out and grow normally.

LOL first time i plant on rockwool, and first time i see the root tip appear instead of the plant :p so i tought i should have done something wrong lol.

I tought rockwool was too hard for the seedlings to turn around after they made theyr way up :S

thanks guys ;)

Hey fokaz,

Truth is, I'm not sure what the previous posters were talkin about... if you place a seed in a papertowel it WILL ALWAYS extend its taproot from the same point from the seed.

So you didnt do anything wrong other than put the seed in to the RW in the wrong direction. This is why I use papertowel ( or some other germ method, such as a glass of water) to extend the taproot prior to planting.

Sad thing is if you do anything to the seedling it may kill it (such as try to pull it out and reverse it).

My advice, ignore if you like and pay attention to the previous posters at your demise, is to use some other method to germ your seeds (either glass of water until they fall, or paper towel) prior to seeding in RW.

For now... good luck with what you have... hopefully they will correct themselves in order to save you VEG time...

only hapened to one afterall, you were very correct, even though gravity is a nice thing one, of my seeds had the root comming up from the cube about 2cm up...i just took it off trying not to touch the root and put it in the right direction...she was so grown up by now the shell even came out...it was buried in the cube also lol...

i used the glass of water method, i always soak them before planting them, i just never done it in cubes so i dont know what to expect. ;)

everything nice by now, even though i have much more faith in soil...those cubes just seem unatural to me :p

thanks a lot guys

That is what I would do, like core has suggested..... wygram that is hillarious man, report it to science LOL!!

You got a picture of this upside down seedling? I have seen this happen before; the seedling gets confused lol

Is the seed pod still in the rockwool?

lol i didnt took a pic cause the root was even starting to develop little tiny hairs(fortunately it was dark, cause i was hoping for it to dive in the cube again)...so i tought i had to do that realy fast and forgot the pic...

i just took it off the cube without touching with my fingers in the roots, and planted it again on the cube , when i took her off the cube, because she was upside down, as soon as i took it off, the shell came off, so i threw it away ...today she is all grown up, the most developed one :D

still waitiong for 3 more to sprout though :(

Stuff like this is pretty common sense really, it's just that when it happens, panic sets in lol. Sometimes roots don't sprout in a straight line but a bit curved, when you have something lying down, and its curved, rather than gravity causing the root to be on the lower side of the curve, gravity pulls the heavier side down, which at that point, is always going to be the seed pod itself, leaving the root tail pointing upwards. A bit of time will let the root grow more and it will angle itself downward as the tips of the root are gravity sensitive. Once the root has an anchor in something fairly solid, the rest of the seedling will then turn itself the right way up. The problem is that durng the time it takes for sufficeint growth to occur, if the seed wasn't planted in soil or in paper towels but on a surface exposed to light, the root tip can dry out and the seedling die off. So although in most cases the seedling will right itself, there are times that you need to rescue it. So if you had planted a cm into soil, you'd be fine and wouldn't know anything about it, in something like rockwool (and I'm guesing here as I haven't used it) you would probably be better off following Core's advice; which is a pretty good rule of thumb in most cases really.
