Seedling Troubles..

Hi,

I am currently trying to sprout my own seedlings and some others i got from cool people around the world.

They do sprout in wet tissues! the root gets an inch or so long. Then the problem starts because they cant seem to shake the seed shell off! After removing the seed manually and getting rid of the "foreskin" I notice a dark brown spot on the unopened sprout leaves.. These sprouts are like dead and dont do anything.. Is it me? what do i do!!!

The humidity, light, and soil should be ok. Some seeds that didnt have this problem are thriving!

Thanks for help!

this is what i do with my seedlings, i hope it can help you get yours working.

i germinate them in paper towels. once the seed cracks, it goes in soil taproot down. i don't let it grow long in it's germination environment, because it can dry out and die, get too much light and die, get too much water and die... in soil it's much easier. the shell doesn't have to come off, i didn't remove the shell from any of my seedlings and they all grew up just fine.

also could have just been a bad batch of seeds... but i'd never let mine have a root 1" long before planting it. i plant them even if the shell just cracked open a bit.

I agree, letting them get 1 inch roots in paper towels will harm them. Plant in soil as soon as they crack shell.

Do you have a little fan on your seedlings? I pop my in soil and leave under 24-0 shop lite with a fan. They do fine! Hope yours get better! good luck

Thanks guys!

I see my error of over germing in the towels. This could explain a few symptoms if not all. I will set my fan into action too.. sadly its a pretty large room fan, but it could help with circulation.

Looks like im gonna have to transplant my newest batch sooner than I expected!

(I let these babys soak in water for a day until they sunk to the bottom) They are probably cracked already!

Peace :abduct:

hmm i always let mine get at least an inch long before planting. only lost one of many this year it only had a half inch root=/ i also tried 13 in straight pro mix about a week ago for the hell of it and even in these cool temps 11 have sprouted and are looking good on their own^^
