Seedling Stretching

I planted 10 Cali-orange bud the other day. I forgot one night and left the light too far away and they stretched pretty good. I mean like 2" and they already look to long.

So my question is this. Can I repot these and sink the steched part of the stem under new soil to help support the week stem. Say I bury half the stem under new soil, would that hurt the seedling. Or should I try and grow these out and take some clones when I can? These were all 10 beans that I had.

Thanks.

also, do you have a little fan blowing gently on them ? toughens them up real nicely.

Yes I go have a fan runnin, they are swaying in the breeze like they are on a tropical Island.

I will be repotting today, so I will put them low enough in the new soil to help support them.

Thanks guys.

I'm actually not a big fan of this technique. I'd rather let the roots grow rather than restricting them and forcing new roots from the stem. If they get too lanky, they'll fall over, and then they'll just struggle till they can stand again, thickening the stem as they manage it. Cali-o is a great strain, whose version are you running?

I got the Cali-o from Nirvana.

These are real lanky. I had them under some LED's but had them too far away. The stem is like 3" long and way to thin. I will have to bury them at least a little. I know it was not the LED's because the LED's were able to have 2 mothers growing under them for 120+ days and no problems. I just took about 20 clones from them the other night.

The reason for the Cali-o is the stuff I have growing now I have no idea what it is. It's good, but I have no clue. I want to grow something that I know what it is this time.

Would it help or hurt if I put in some cloning gel/powder on the part of the stem that will by under the new soil?

prop them up with popcicle sticks or wire

prop them up with popcicle sticks or wire

I just prop them up for a day or two with something holding them up with the fan blowing and the stalk will strengthen up. Just takes a couple days and they should stand up on their own.

If you honestly think that they will break then just add a little bit of soil. IMO I would leave some stem sticking out though at least 2'' if they are 3'' right now.

dont prop them up with anything unless you need to due to the weight of the buds at day 35 onwards. At this stage, the plant knowing it cant stand up will stimulate the strengthening of the stem, and this helps nute flow later, propping them up will mean that they can stretch further with minimal stem development. The most important thing to remember is that these plants have evolved for millions of years with no help, so why interfere with them.

I doubt it would help or hurt, roots will form from the stem you bury, you just reduce the room the tap root has.

Dont worry they will be 100% ok

Just transplant them so you bury as much stem as possible and within days you will see the stems start to fatten up, I have done this before, don't worry.

It definately hurts your grow-ego lol... but you'll get over it :)
