Seedling stem rot?

How long has this problem been going on? Less than 12 hours.
Are you growing in a PVC grow tent? (example: Hydrohut or any other non brand tents) No.
What system are you running? (DWC? Ebb flow? Aero? Water Farm? Flood Tables? and so on...) Flood tables.
What STRAIN are you growing? White Castle.
What was the establishing technique? (Were the seed or clone?) Seed.
What is the age of your plants? About a week.
How long have they been in there mixture they are in now?(coco,soiless etc..) They were started in rapid rooter knock-offs and have been in the hydroton for a few days.
How tall are the plants? A few inches.
What PHASE are the plants in? (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in? Seedling.
What Technique are you using? The type that kills plants apparently.
What substrate/medium are you using?(Hydroton, RockWool etc.) Hydroton.
What is the Water temperature? 68-72*
What color are your roots? White? Brown? Are your roots slimy? Don't have access to them.
What Nutrient's are you using?(If growing soiless) None yet.
How much of each nutrient are you using with how much water? *Knowing the brand is very helpful*
How often are you feeding? (If using soiless)
How often are you giving nutrients? (If using soiless)
If flowering, when did you switch over to using Bloom nutrients?
What order are you mixing your nutrients? (example: veg nutes 1st, bloom 2nd ect)
What is the TDS/EC/PPM you are using .2 EC
What is the pH of the "Tank"? 5.5-5.8
How often are you testing your pH/PPM/EC/TDS? 2-3 times a day.
Are you sure your calibration is correct on your equipment? Yes.
When was your last watering? 3 hours ago.
What is your water temps? 68-72*
When was your last feeding change? (ie. grow-bloom-micro-additional)
How often do you clean your system: example: Flush out water replace with clean water and nutrients?
What size bulb are you using? 400w MH
How old is the bulbs you are using? 2 years?
What is the distance to the canopy? Maybe 18-22"
What is your RH Factor(Relative Humidity)? 35-45
What is the canopy temperature? 65-75*
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include flucutaion range) 65-75*
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.) Stanley blower.
Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ? The veg room uses a Stanley blower on high 24H a day pulling through a SS2. 2 6" passive intakes.
Is the fan blowing directly at plants? There is a small fan on low blowing between the plants and the hood.
Is your water HARD or SOFT? Town Water <100ppm
What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water? Above.
If using tap water, what is the ppm/EC/TDS of the water right out of the tap? <100ppm
If using RO,Distilled,mineral water, what is the ppm/EC/TDS without any additives?
Are you using water from a water softener? No.
Has plant been recently pruned, cloned off of or pinched No.
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so, What and When? None.
Are plant's infected with pest's Nope.


So I come home today and find one of my White Castle seedlings laying flat on the Hydroton. Upon closer inspection there is a dark thin (dead?) spot in the stem right above the hydroton. Roots too wet or what?

Looks like damp off to me. How is the air flow around your seedlings? Good air movement will help pevent this.

If you have any RTU fungicidal spray, I would hit any other seedlings with it to stop it before you lose more. (3 in 1 from Lowes or Wally World, Nutria by Bayer or any Neem based product should do the trick).

Thanks Amber, I just got done googling damping off. I added 2 ml of bleach per 10 gal of res, switched the flood timer from every 4 hours to every 8, and turned the fan up that blows on them. ill get some fungicide in the am.

So you are saying there is no hope for the seedlings that show no sings? And the Hydrotons no good anymore? I thoroughly wash and bleach the clay between grows.

Too much moisture for seedlings always risky. That air movement is definitely critical. Your babies could potentially recover if the existing conditions are modified. Next run, try toughening them up before sticking into hydroton.

How do I toughen them up first? More time in the dome before they hit the clay?

I think in the hydroton the rapid rooters never dry out, but without them i would be lost as to how to grow the seed before it goes in the flood table.

i wouldnt tossem they may make it u will know soon prop it up with sumthin to keep it off the hydroton...pop a few more beans as back up but dont just tossem ive seen some come back from worse off

I bought this Daconil Ready-to-use fungicide:

I went to spray them assuming it was a thin liquid... its thick as shit. I sprayed the plants and top layer of hydroton. The fungicide was all clumpy on the plant so i wiped it around until it was more uniform. Am I on the right path? How often, how much, and where am I supposed to be spraying this? I have this feeling I'm not understanding this correctly.
