Seedling sprouted but....

Should I take action? It seems as though part of the seed is stopping the cotyledon from spreading. What do I do? If anything. Thanks in advance.

Wait a day or two to see if the seed husk falls off on its own. If it does not separate on its own VERY CAREFULLY ease the husk off of the emerging cotyledons. I use a straight pin to assist in the removal. Grasp the stem lightly while you work on removing the seed hull. Go slowly.

Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. I was able to remove the stuck shell with tweezers and a razor with no damage to the cotyledon. It was the most vigorouslyou growing seedling as it was 3x the size of any other germinated seed. Hopefully it's a she. Below is a pic of her after 24 hours in a paper towel.

Next time just keep it slightly moist. As long as the seed hull is damp, the sprout will eventually shrug off the hull. :)

I like to put a single drop of water right on the tippity top. Wait till its totally absorbed then repeat. It works good.

Try planting the seed a little bit deeper next time as the soil will normally pull it off as the shoot grows through the soil. Me being the impatient type I use the back of a spoon for backing on the seed head and pick the husk off with a big needle. Be careful you don't bend the sprout or damage the seed head.
