Seedling problems (pics included)

Hi everyone,

Well, these are 2 weeks old under compact fluoros untill old enough to go under the 1k HPS. The pics are pretty much self-explanatory but I'll add that the brown spots on the leaves are hard to the touch. Its Early Girl and Grapefruit Fem. I gave them a bit of epsom salts, then this morning I gave them a bit of 10-15-10 nutes, not a lot thinking it might be a phosphorus def or something.

Anyways, what do you all think?

How much nutrient did you give them before this?

no ferts/nutes whatsoever before this

and my water ph was at 6.5
I havent checked the soil yet but its the same soil I used for my previous grow and I didnt have this problem.

Hi, i don't feed nothing the young seedlings, it is very easy to burn them with nutes and they don't need them usually (and 10-15-10 is very hot for their age). I am not an expert and i can't help more, but i am afraid that you made a wrong choice by feeding them with this 10-15-10. Good luck with your babies.

I know you're not supposed to but they were doing terrible. Better to risk a really diluted amount of nutes than to let them die don't you agree?

The most problems i had with seedlings was because of very hot- rich soils (some seedlings liked it ,some didn't),i never had a deficiency at this age, and some times i believe is better to leave them alone (give proper temps, humidity, waterings),especially if you are not sure what the problem is.
Or even better to ask here first! Hope that you will receive the help you need here.

You should have lower nutes, I use DNF they are like 5/2/1 when parts A & B are in combo. Very Very Very Very light nutes sprayed on plants is about your only choice. I use a root stimulator, 1/4 nutes ,& a drop of superthrive. sprayed on and no nutes in water used to feed roots just stimulator. good luck

hmm. I think your initial problem may have been overwatering- your soil looks dense and saturated. Not a lot of perlite in the mix. What type of soil is it?

Much too early for a deficiency...

not too early for a deficiency but I will agree with the others that it really doesn't look like 1.
If you re-use soil, you need to flush it thouroughly and replace the nutes used by your last grow. I add new perlite, wormcastings and a highly concentrated nute mix to get it back to how it used to be...
Did you remeber to add more dolomite lime to your soil?

I really think the problem is the soil. Recycling soil is very easy but it needs to be done right.

Let us know what steps you did to recycle your soil.

The easy way out is just getting some new soil in...

i agree with blackmelo you really need to flush the soil really good if it's been used once all ready. do your cups have slots cut in the bottom of those cups if not you should have this will help the soil dry out a little faster - just cut the slots in a pie wedge shape, just from looking at the soil you need more perlite.

i use a soil less mix from home depot comes in 2 & 3 cubic/ft bags and all i use is scotts bone meal, blood meal mixed really good and then i just add epsom salts in my distilled water and 1 table spoon of h2o2. for seedlings i don’t use a fert most of the time if i do its a weak mix of fish emulsion.
if you do use the blood meal and bone meal let it set about two weeks with a good mixing 1-2 times a day and let the bag or what ever you put it in air out for a bit because the stuff will sweat from the brake down process.

..i agree...whatever nutes were in the soil from your last grow are burning your seedlings.

if they are not dead yet, transplant into unfertilized soil and give a good flush...

best of luck.

Seedling Soil and dont over water

Seedling Soil and dont over water

They should look like this. Heres a fact nobody wants to hear but you can do a whole grow without any nutes and still have a very green and tastey harvest. As long as the soil you transplant to after 2 weeks has some basic nutes you are all set. Over watering is the #1 prob . I would wash those roots off and put in seedling soil and lightly water.

^^^^^^

Hello,

I know this problem personally. While they are young-I let them dry to a point where the soil will crumble way and from the roots. Transplant them into something way less hot and be gentle with them-use a drop per gallon of superthrive and a weak worm casting tea with kelp and they may do just fine.

I did what I just said with these seedlings and they are much better-new pics soon.

I think that I will instead just wash away the soil-never occured to me to just put the rootbal/soil in a small tube of water and wash away the soil.
