Seedling Light Height

I am using the Advanced Platinum Series P450 LED light in Veg mode currently. The company sent a flier/letter with recommendations on what mode and height it recommends during the plants life cycle. The light has both Veg and Bloom options.
For me, it's getting confusing because there is quite the gap in distance the company recommends between "Seedlings & Clones" and "Early Vegetative Growth". As well as the definition of each stage in the life cycle as given below by Platinum LED.

How do I know where to set my height, and how do I know when to adjust it? All of this while keeping in mind I can't set it exact, or the plant won't have room to grow into the light without being too close.

My girls are only in Day 4 of Veg, (check out my grow diary!) so obviously in the seedling stage. I currently have the light 38 inches above the "canopy".

Here is what the company recommends:
  • Seedlings & Clones: 36-40 inches / Veg Switch Only
  • Early Vegetative Growth: 24 inches / Veg Switch Only
  • Late Vegetative Growth: 24 inches / Both Veg & Bloom Switches
  • Flower: 18 inches / Both Veg & Bloom Switches

Do you think "Early Vegetative Growth" would be week two? Week three? Or am I thinking about it all wrong and it's more of a "how the plant looks" sort of thing? :dunno:

Anyone have suggestions? It is mucho appreciated!

seedlings/clones cant really use that much light at first because they dont have the infrastructure to support the growth

as long as they are not stretching that much i would jsut stick with the recommended distance for now
what would this be equivalent to as far as hid lights go?

The company says 600 watt HPS.

I am planning to go with the recommended height once I know that that is, lol.

if its throwing off as much light as a 600w...
at least three feet (36")
maybe consider something less powerful for now

I wish I could, but I don't have the ability at the moment.

I am working in a cabinet space for my seedlings and moms.

good deal, it dosent ahve to be anything elaborate
are you talking a fully enclosed cabinet?

even a simple desk top flouro lamp and one of those gardening trays with humidity dome could serve as a clone/ seedling bay

what are you plans on this cab build?
if stealth is not a major concern, how about one of the prefab tents?

Here is a link to my cabinet grow. I am thinking of getting a two foot long T5 setup for in there. Just waiting a bit until funds stabilize. The tent setup I currently have for both Veg and Flower has sucked me dry at the moment.

Yea, this is only personal, but you're right, it will save money in the long run. Using less energy on light as seedlings and in Veg.

Decided to lower the light from 38 to 30 inches. I got some confirmation from Platinum LED on definition of "Early Veg", they thought two weeks. So I am going to go down to 30 now and 24 next week.
