Seedling distance from T5

My seedlings will go from 1/2 inch to about 3 inches (or so) in peat pots and light soil. How close should they be to the overhead T5, 6400K. tube?
Thank you.

I put mine about 8in to a foot to get the plants to stretch & branch out some.
This is in veg though... not a flower light.

As close as possible, so long as they won’t grow into them while you’re away.

I start off a little high with all lights and work my way closer over time.

I find this reduces their sunburn stress. :tiphat:

That's ok to start with I guess.

The main issue is too make sure the temps aren't too much at the top of the plants.

With day-old seedlings I like to start slow that's all. :tiphat:

As for myself, I have a Quad T-5 bulb fixture in which use a pair of Zoo Med 6,500K and 10,000K spectrum bulbs
at 54 watt each. I purchased them at a local Saltwater aquarium Fish store and like using this spectrum mixture.

Always with these tubes try to keep em as close as the babies will tolerate! I use the back if my hand to discern heat temp of said t5.........in my experiance these bulbs aren't powerful enough to damage seedlings.....if you have twenty seedlings I can understand 300w of t5......but if your germinating from seeds you shouldn't need anything more than 2 54w 6400k tubes for them in my opinion. Wanna see brutalized seedlings? Give a newb a screw in LED that's got some decent lumens lmao! I wish u the best

Close as possible ...!!!... they really have no heat put off of them ...

I do notice though, if you keep the light at about 12 inches above the plants they won’t grow so compact ...!!!... it’s all about what works best in your setup ...

2.5 probably for seedlings under 315w and reducing down to flower.. for flower its around 18-24" but measuring 315s with a par meter makes em look like a waste of money.

315s have a horrible spread unless mounted in a vertical fixture.

Nothing beats 5k samsung solstrips for me..

Yes, I agree with Rab since they are fluorescent tubes (cool or warm), you can get them close without burning the plant. I prefer not much stretch, but others, it works for them. When I had a cabinet it would range between 4"-12" in veg stage, closer (4"-6")and side fluoros during bloom.
