Hi everyone. I'm in zone 5 in the mid-west and we recently had a frost for the first time this year. I have a patch of plants that I've sort of let go wild the last couple of years. This year I pulled all the males but since the plants are up on a hill they aren't sheltered much and probably get hemp pollen from miles around. Basically they're 100% seeded out.
I figured I would just harvest a few of the smaller plants and see how they smoked. Surprisingly I would say some of them are actually pretty good other than the seeds. Under a microscope I see some amber trichomes, but I'm not sure its even 20%. Its very leafy and still pretty green despite being so late in the season. I just am not sure if they will bulk up any more or if I'm just going to lose more flowers as seeds fall out. What do you guys think? Should I just go ahead and pull them? I'm really not sure what strain they could be called anymore. That area has been seeded with a wide mix of bagseed, home-made fem seeds, and even some rare seeds out of nug bags. Its almost impossible to know after 3 generations what has mixed with it though, especially considering all the hemp around. This will probably be the last year I use that area.
On the plus side, without the seeds I bet I've got a quarter pound or more out there still. I don't know how much more it would possibly add at this point. Got one that is about 7 feet tall, and then another that must have gotten topped somehow early on and formed a sort of candelabra shape. I think there's still 2-3 mid-sized plants too. I'll have an indoor harvest in 2-3 months here that will be seedless, so I'm not super worried about the quality. Most of what I have sampled so far though is very "up" sort of sativa, but that was cut a week ago now.....
