Seed to CoCo

I am looking for some insight please.

I have had many runs with a 2000w system started from clones(mostly Sin Valley OG, GSC, Blizzard, and a few more) and grown in coco. I used a simple mix of botancare grow and bloom, cal-mag, with filtered water at a 5.7ph to 6.2ph tested with ph meter. I have had great success with very nice yields. I have never tested the coco ph as I only have a water meter. I have never even measured ppm in water as I have always been very limited in funding from my CFO(wife)hehehe. Here is what I need to know as I move forward.

I am starting from seed in rockwool cube.
Seeds = Blizzard#5 (sin valley, misc sin valley...I think OG and maybe a Chem Dawg) and misc dispensary bag seed.

I started by soaking seeds 16 hours in distilled water until they sank when touched. Then on wet paper towel in open ziplock, warm and dark till popped. I moved them yesterday to a rockwool cube and used a mixture of 5ml of botanacare grow in 1 gallon of distilled water, wet cubes and in a warm humid environment with only natural ambient light in the room. I have a 1000w hps system that will go to 400w, 600w, 100w and 1100w with a turbo feature and a controlled environment after they sprout. I have not turned light on yet as the main root is still exposed even after placement downward in the cube. My questions are as follows

1) Am I doing this right so far?

I am confident in my abilities after I get them to small cups, but I do not know if I am doing this right. I only have Botanacare grow and then bloom later, I have cal mag, I have Humbolt Budswell for later if at all.
I will use a coco mix in 3gal grow bag when ready as well.

I also say a older thread about 12&12 from seed, what are the pros of this method and are you doing it currently or have you tried it and what was the outcome?

Future note: starting seeds directly in coco is super easy. Prepare low strength rooting solution w/ base nutes, rooting accelerator (ie rhizotonic) and cal mag, water some coco with it and squeeze most of the water out, place wet coco into small cups/starter trays, poke a hole 1” deep in the middle of each cube/cup, drop the seed in and cover with a little coco from the sides. I don’t worry about which way it’s pointing or anything like that and never have issues. Keep a little bit of pure water in the bottom of tray with a humidity dome on top and you’ll see sprouts very quickly. This will make for an easier transition when up-potting into a larger pot of coco.

Other than that, it sounds like you’re doing everything right. Just keep them moist and under a dome. Start weening them to room RH in the next week or so. I’ve never gone from rock wool to coco but I think you’ll be just fine.

I have never 12/12 from seed, but from reading will say that sativa dominant plants do best.. you want something that will stretch fast and throw out a bunch of bud sites in the first couple weeks of flower. Seems most indica dominant plants end up being runts if not vegged.

Start from coco, I will try that on my next run, I thought I could go that way I just was not sure. Thank you. The seed starter cube is a green fiber material. I equated it to rockwool, but maybe I was mistaken. I've always planted the cube in coco and in solo cups prior to transplant to 3 gal bag. But it was always a clone. I have my light about 48" from seedlings, warm and humid. I will run light at 400w 24hrs a day until strong, and move closer to light when the seedlings finally sprout. Right now I have several of the dispensary bagseed popped and in process of shedding the shell. I have some Blizzard's just starting to root. I am only on day 2 of start. warm wet and humid for sure.

Does this sound solid? Light time? Light distance? And thank you for the help.

Yessir everything sounds good. You can go to 18/6 light cycle if you want; I prefer 24/0 in my veg space to keep stretch to a minimum though; it’s preference. Only other tip is not to over water the sprouts, you don’t want to let them dry all the way out, but on the flip side you also do not want them waterlogged. Wet/dry cycles start after you’ve transplanted to the next stage to build roots.

So the 2 misc dispensary bagseed that popped first are starting to stretch, ughh. I had them just ambient light @400w 5' above. My tray still has seeds that are begining to root but the seeds have not sprouted and risen yet. 1 Blizz and 2 SV Misc have begun to rise as well as the 2 bagseed starting to stretch. I moved the whole tray to 13" below 400w. Questions
1) Should I put the stretch in a coco cup now to support? They are only 3 days since pop.
2) I am thinking I should take the seeds that aren't sprouted yet and move them out of the light. I have them all in one tray right now. Maybe keep the stretched under light in coco cups and move the others to the floor?
Thanks Purp

I now have the 2 stretch and the 2 seedlings under 400w 10"from light. Other's that are starting to sprout are in dome warm and humid. I will move to light after they begin to show leaf. Good or not good?

Sounds good, just keep an eye on them when adjusting the light and make sure it’s not too much at once. You can bury the stem a little when you up pot, I wouldn’t stress about them stretching a little.
