Seed killer

Since lurking here I have finally set myself up with a perpetual 600 setup in a tent in my garage. Inside the tent I veg and then bloom.
My seedlings and clones are on a shelf covered in plastic with airflow due to the loose covering.
Cloning has gotten easier with practice. Thank you icmag for the how to's, but I keep killing my seeds. I did say I
I tried to transplant a few today and found that the container was very warm. SHITSKI! I had never been there when the culprit was attacking my poor seedlings. The heat caused them to just fall over.
Can somebody give me some temp info on seedlngs.
thankyouverymuch

Hello tent grower!! I've been throwing down in tents for a couple of years now. So tell me of your intake and exhaust systems? Its crucial to have one or the other in a tent and just use passive on the other end, you'll need at least a 4" exhaust at this stage. If your flirting with high 80s/low 90s your in trouble. If my tent goes above 85 ill throw on the house ac to get it back down. Check back in with your temps and ill tell you more.

There is an inline 4" sucking air out of the tent. passive intake. Temps went to 87.
The temps were high on the surface of the black starter containers. I veg and flower in white containers.
Overall temps were not too high.
Thank you for checking in.

...first, welcome to ICMag and to the hobby although i warn you, growing grows on you, it is much more addictive than smoking, lol.

...now, you don't say what style you grow in so i'll just tell you what i do when popping seeds.

first, i grow in straight coco hempy-buckets so i pop my beans in small, 7oz solo cups of straight coco so once they are rooted it is a very simple procedure to up pot them into hempys. ...what i do is to poke a shallow hole in the center of the coco, then i drop a seed in and loosely pinch the hole closed, i aim for a loose covering on top of the seed, i want to block light but i don't want the emerging seedling to have a hard time freeing itself.

...anyway, after i drop the seed in and pinch the hole closed i take another 7oz solo cup and tape it on top as a temporary humidity dome which i promptly remove immediately after the seedling emerges.

...i think your problem is that you are leaving the humidity dome on too long, ...they need to start hardening off almost immediately.

hth, SOG

Thankyouverymuch
I also grow in coco.
There is no problem getting them started... happy as a clam with germ rates and getting them through that stage. Then after a few days of too high temps and too much water they fall over.
The coco was deceiving and I thought they were dry when they had plenty of water.
That is what I am observing and learning here in the forums.
thankyouverymuch

you're welcome man, ...that's what we do, ...we help each other, ...i'm sure when the time comes you will take your turn too.

...and when watering you want to develop a feel for the weight of the pots, when dry and when wet, ...believe me, coco get's very light when it is dry so it becomes very easy to tell when to water by how heavy your pots are.

...and for real, take the dome off and let the seedlings into the open air of your tent as soon as they emerge from the coco, ...otherwise they get stretchy and weak.

peace, SOG

I echo some of the things said above, take the dome off and let those puppies breath! I have always used toothpicks and straws to support some of my more stretchy seeds over the years. I'm a soil man so cant give you much experience on coco, but sounds like your temps and stuff are alright.

thankyouallverymuch
new seeds are popping as we speak - they sprout fast compared to the stuff in the cigar box in the garage.
Do you guys mix perlite or anything into the coco for seeds? My flowers grow in coco fiber, perlite and worm castings. The casting pellets work better than the poo.
Last time I popped seeds I got a few survivors. They are about a month old in veg.

Taking the dome off earlier and putting them into the enriched coco before they got so tall has helped this last planting survive.
The first 2 survivors are maturing and have just started showing alternating nodes. I took a cutting of each and placed them in a cup of nutes in the bloom room.
They look like they are getting stretchy and could be males.
Thankyouallverymuchagain

They really did get warm to the touch. I up potted them and gave them a cool breeze with a fan.
These are f1 polyhybrids gifted to me at a medical farmers market. Most of them sprouted. 2 seeds got washed out of the tray with a splash of water and sprouted outside the coco. Weird!!
I look forward to these Albert Walker crosses.
(Albert walker x the manic) male x flo (female).
(Albert walker x the manic) male x bubba kush. (female)
(Albert walker x the manic) male x cheese (female)
The sweet skunky Dank of Albert Walker is kickin'
