Seed germination.

I was wondering if it would be beneficial to dip the tiny foot of the root of a newly germinated seed into a rooting hormone, like Clonex? Has anyone tried this to stimulate early growth of the root?

rooting hormones are to assist the plant in creating a root from where one does not exist...ei. a cutting to form a clone....

Where a root exists already, I am not sure but it might even be detrimental....no need to create a root where one exists already.

When it starts to grow and form a few leaves, add soil to the bottom of the first set of leaves and then roots will form out of them stem and create a stronger root system in that manner.......although, with proper care....that step is not necessary either....

well he wants to hear from someone that has actually tried it. maybe set up a side by side. but judgeing a rootmass requires hacking into rootball IMHO

Yeah good idea, side-by-side in clear pots. Can't beat practical experimentation!
I will let you know how I get on. I have an idea that it will promote earlier side roots from the tap root but we'll see.

to really analize a rootball viewing the outside aint enough. you need to cut open the root ball. but clear cups are a start

Yeah I think a post-mortem on a couple of sacrificial lambs (bless 'em) from each camp is in order.

I just got flamed in 'reputation', telling me I'm being silly and it would most likely harm the reticule, and not to send any more 'silly' posts. Wow, thanks for that!
The words 'most likely' are telling though. Clearly you don't know, that's why I posted it! Neither do I. But I will find out & I promise I will let you know.

has anybody had any problems germinating sweet tooth auto beans?? I paid £35 for 5 seeds and only 1 germinated so I had to buy more and wasn't particularly happy with this, I soaked the seeds in warm water for a few hours then into the tissue sandwich between 2 plates and 1 week later only 1 successful seed from each pack. is this a problem with the strain from barneys farm or have I done something wrong? they were in a warm, dark environment so honestly have no idea what happened. ive never had this problem before so any advice would be greatly appreciated. cheers stonerz
