Seed found developing. Hermie? Chop??

I'm 4 weeks into flower and I noted a swollen calyx on one of my plants. I took a knife and carefully cut it open to check, and sure enough there was a fairly developed seed growing. It was about the size of a BB so it had to gotten fertilized weeks ago. I've been watching my plants closely (especially for PM) and never saw any signs of male parts.

I've got 6 plants in my cab, 2 are clones from the club (which I've previously grown and do not hermie) and 4 other that are bagseed. Now since the bud that I got the seed from didn't have a lots of seeds in it, and most growers remove males, I'm assuming this plant has hermie genes in it which produced the original seeds that I planted.

Lately the plant in question has had some questionable looking growth, but everything that looks weird has pistils growing out of it. I tried to take pictures, but nothing really came out. I have had a hermies in the past that showed male flowers (I could only find 1) which I removed thinking the problem was over, but I ended up harvesting seeded bud.

So my question is, what should I do? Does there HAVE to be a source of pollen for a plant to fertilize itself or can it do it internally? None of my other plants are showing swollen calyx's and since this seed was so far developed, I'd imagine other plants would show being pregnant if the pollen was loose. I don't care if this one plant has a couple of seeds in it, I just don't want the rest of my crop to be seeded.

I highlighted some of the interesting looking spots..

This one shows the seed and another spot..

Looks like a few hermish looking bits there, looks like there might be a few nanners hidden in those calyxes.I'd try plucking off the weird looking calyxes and see if it continues or not.

That's way too much work to throw out because of a handful of seeds. I'd step up nanner patrol to keep it to a minimum but definitely let her finish up.

The yellow just above center is a nanner.

As freezerboy said, too much work to just throw out. I'm gonna wait and watch closely to make sure no nanners pop up.

I definitely don't have any nanners popping out like the above picture, but does there have to be for the plant to pollinate itself?

Pollen is the only possibility. Pollen comes only from male or "male" flowers. If you've never had males that may have polluted the room in a previous grow, then you have a self pollinator by way of "male" nanners. Not all are bright yellow and some hide pretty good.

Hmm just found a seed on another plant. Only thing that still seems a little odd is the neighboring calyx's didn't contain seeds. I would imagine that if pollen was present, it would pollinated all the calyxs in the same area. But now that I'm having two plants develop seeds, I'm thinking its pollen. Only thing that still has me on the fence is this other plant with the seed was grown from same batch of bagseed as the weird looking plant, so even if it doesn't look funny it still might have the same genes as the problem plant. My mazar which I know isn't hermie so far doesn't seem to have any seeds which I would assume there would be some if pollen was floating around...

I've never had any male plants or hermies in my current cab so it can't be residual pollen.

Thanks for the input :joint:

Not odd at all; simply means that a single grain of pollen settled on a receptive pistil in that one spot and led to one seed. Keep your eyes open for more nanners but honestly, fat ripe seeds are so easy to see and remove- don't waste all this effort for that!

I'm with the let her finish people ...

You could have accidentally transported a small amount of pollen to your grow as well. Here's a fact and good tip someone gave me long ago ... Pollen is rendered nonviable when it comes in contact with water. A light misting now and then could prevent an abundance of seeds.

if it was sending out enough pollen to pollinate your whole cab then you are screwed anyways, and ripping it out will spread the pollen further.

Pistils go brown when they catch pollen, your plant looks fine. Just pluck off nanners if you see them.

Turns out that was the case. After inspection last night I found seeds pretty much everywhere :badday: Really makes me sad since this is my first grow that everything was going great. At week 5 now and my plants are looking as fat as my previous harvests did and I still got 4 weeks left to go!

Crappy genetics...I was really hoping for sensimilla. I love the mazar I got (strain from a club) but now I don't have access to the clubs anymore and I don't know anyone besides you guys who grow to get clones from.

I've thought about buying seeds, but since I grow so little its hard to find good plants. When I grew these plants out from seed I had to put them into 12/12 in my grow cab after harvest to sex them. After that I put them back into veg to get clones to make mothers. I then made more clones out of those for my current grow. I planted the seeds back in April, and I'm just now finding out that I got crap genetics...grrr...

i wouldnt worry at all, my big bud strain throws nanners at week4 like clockwork every freaking time. i always let them finish properly and in the end there are basically no seeds in there, just the nanners. the smoke does making pop/crack sounds when smoked in a joint but at the same time i can not see any seeds in the weed itself, i mean they must be really small and very undeveloped and when grinding my bud im also grinding these little fuckers but the smokes still great, not harsh at all

its quite normal in some strains, dont worry unless you start finding alot of bananas.

usually you get the odd banana in the last 3-4 weeks or so.
