Heres a heads up for everyone interested in keeping an eye on their home while away. Buy the panasonic bl-c111a. Trust me you will not be disapointed with this camera, you have my word. You dont need a computer after its setup, and it has pan/tilt/zoom capability. It does every feature you could ask for including motion/heat detection, all in one single relatively small unit! Also has clear audio and I can hear whats going on perfectly. I got mine off amazon for $149 a month ago, but due to its recent popularity the price is now $180. I repeat, there is no PC needed in ur house after initial setup. All you do is plug it into the power outlet and ur router. Also, setup was a breeze and i had everything running perfectly within 2 hours. Worst case scenario is you'll have to call customer service so they can tell u how to turn on port forwarding for ur specific router. I can see my driveway, front porch, and living room thanks to the 170 degree panning capability. The controls are awesome and you can save four camera positions, as well as a home position. Now I can check on my place from work or anywhere there's an internet connection, using viewnetcam.com, which they provide to you free of charge. I could say so much more about this camera but this is getting a bit too long lol. Just trust me and order one. For those who have $270 laying around might opt for the wireless model (bl-c131a). If people show interest in the thread i can give more details. Hope this helps someone

i was thinking of getting one. so i could watch the thiefs walk out with all my shit. i could be like, hey there goes all my shit. bye. time to move. no but seriously, it would help identify someone you know. if you dont know them, i cant see it helping. cant call the po po.

I forgot to mention that I can also watch the feed from my iphone. Let me give u guys a real life example of why i love this camera... I work ten minutes away from my crib. Im on my PC all day, well actually 8-4 chillin making 3D airplaine parts and drawings with modeling/drafting software, u can probably guess my ocupation. I keep a small window of my camera feed in the corner of my PC screen while im workin and if someone disrespect and enters the house then i can be home in 5-10 minutes, 5 if i do 90 on the freeway (no problem, not too many boys on the highway around here). That not beneficial? i think so. go get the damn camera i dont ramble like this for nothin! I can also hear if my fire detector is going off... come on, use ur brain fella... a fireman can break into ur house over a false alarm from one of ur fire detectors . it happened to me. You can make the camera send a text message or email when it senses movement or body heat. How tuff is that people? wadup pseudo, im not sure what a dialer is lol. let me know, and gdawg was good man, its no problem just tryin to help people stay safe out here

In my experiences webcams lack the quality picture and audio, plus some of the features found here. Maybe they have gotten better over time since all my web cams are atleast 3 years old.

This is awsome information, and I thank you for sharing!

Having a camera like this was always a dream of mine, though I never looked into it. But now that you have given me insight, I can't picture myself going pro without one. I love how as soon as it detects movement, it will send you an e-mail!

What do you think about having two of these. One from your actual bedrooom that your growroom is in, and one for your livingroom/front door?

glad people see how useful these things are. These are WAY more advanced than a web-cam, did u even read my previous posts? Web cams dont pan, tilt, or zoom, they must always be connected to a pc, you can't easily view or control them from any location with internet service. And you certainly cant do it with ur cell-phone. I had all of these features working within 2 hours

hbstoner u got a good deal, and once u get urs hooked up, stop by and tell us how great it is. trust me you'll really like the cam.

bulenath- I now have two of these units. I liked the wired one so much for my front porch/driveway/livingroom that I went and picked up the wireless version. That one works just as good and is easier to move around because all u need is a power outlet. I have that one right outside of the growroom. I dont recommend u set the camera where it can actually see ur plants, dont wanna take any chances

I say treat ur grow like any legit business would. Cameras are a must (unless u dont have a job and live with the grow). I plan on getting a third camera for the backyard and backporch, and then Ill be fully covered.

ohh yea, if u own multiple cameras, when u log in to view the camera, you have the option of watching each camera individually or all of them simultaneously

Can you hook these up to record 24/7 ? I need something to keep a eye on my champion dogs when I'm out of town.
been some thieves stealing some stuff around here lately.

My friend had his dogs taken and the local convenience store had the thief on camera with his dogs in the back of the truck. he barely made out the license plate but did track them down and recovered them.

If you don't require Paning or zooming, this is a good alternative if you need several cameras and are on more of a budget.

It's 99.00 shipped NEW at newegg and other places. Linksys WVC54GCA.

I have not looked to see if you can get it any lower anywhere else.

The panasonic ones on ebay are refurbs. (Not that you can't trust them, just stating that since no one has mentioned that)

http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...676016&pagename=Linksys/Common/VisitorWrapper

It's wireless and wired. Check the data sheet.

Supports WEP-64, WEP-128, WPA, WPA2

You could even mix and match different types.
