:wave:Hello all, I have been sitting in the background reading and watching some awsome things happen here at icmag. Learned alot to. Just wondering how safe it is to post on this website. I dont really post on any websites but really like this one for a long time now and would like to join in on the discussion sometime. I am in the usa and not a "cardholder". Should I just remain silent and continue to watch and read from the shadows?

Thanks,JR

You're safe here at IC.
Servers are secure and not located in the U.S.A.

If you're worried about IP check out Tor or Vidalia for privacy ;)

All forum software has the ability for the admins to see the IP address for every user, and the ability to trace that address is built right into the software.

Since Gypsy is running this site, then I'm not worried about posting here.

I think the big thing being overlooked here is getting busted for some other reason and having info on your pc that is pulled off and used against you. You can run your browser on a thumb drive and keep all tracks off of your pc. keep all grow related info on the thumb drive but obviously you must keep the thumb drive well hidden when not in use. A 16GB thumb drive is about 30 bucks on newegg and that will hold a lot of incriminating evidence.

PS Check out the Tor threads on IC.

i lurked for a long time, been posting for a year or so with grow logs, not busted yet

That's because they're still building their case. ;)

But seriously... unless anyone here is posting 30k warehouse grows with identity/location revealing pictures you're safe.

The function that allows one to see IP's has NEVER been enabled here.
Not to be arguementive but......Ive owned a web forum before. The top admin see's everything, then gives permissions to various levels of moderators.....
Maybe the average mod cant see my isp adress but who ever owns the site sure as the ability to...E.C/out

lol People who asume they know how this site is based on the fact it's base is VB crack me up. This place is so modded...it's been said time and time again...by Mods, Admin...No one can see IP's here. The feature is optional and has ALWAYS been disabled. believe or not

unless you have the admin powers you truly do not know what can and cant be seen. as for the place being modded i do web design for a living and yes vbull does not have a mod that i have been able to find or hack into to make ip addys invisible to everyone. when the admin pulls up the admin control panel he can see everything. vbull as a program will not let members register without ip information. it just the way v bull works not trying to be argumentative just stating the facts as i know them. now you as a supermod or regular mod cannot see them obv because gypsy has your priv. turned off as far as ip addys. i mean no harm but untill your able to get into the admin panel and truly see whats going on you shouldnt make comments like that.
now as for posting here you can run tor or vidalia and they work great to an extent but just always remember whatever you put on the web can be pulled of the web. even if you use proxies to to change your ip or ip hiders to hide them when you register vbull will always recheck your ip everytime you log in. so basically what im getting at is you can use all kinda programs to help hide your identity but in the end v bull still gets an ip when you sign in. if you use a proxie or ip hider it can still be traced back some way or another.
as for posting here i did a domain lookup and the server is based somewhere in the netherlands so im not scared to post here. it could be a server that is paid for through a private company or it may be a personal server that someone rigged up to keep people safer. either way if your in the states and the server is based offshore and is protected by laws in that country then your good to go. that is why alot of websites such as fta sites are always located offshore for safety reasons. if your server is in the us then its free game to the feds.

just to drop another one on ya to think it about kharma girl when you ban someone how do you keep them from coming back? and if they come back how does gypsy permantely ban them? it has to be done by ip or anyone you ban can just hop right back on under a new name and start posting all over again. now in the new tou that were posted about multiple accounts and alter egos by members how can you explain being able to find out that some one is using multiple accounts? its easy its called by ip. that is the only way to prove someone has multiple accounts. it has been stated here that if someone is caught doing that then they will be banned. the only way to catch them is by ip. just think about it. now as gypsy being the admin im pretty sure he wouldnt hand over info on any of this sites members so i myself have no problem with him having my ip.

well still not trying to argue with you but i do this for a living and the people i build sites for are more anal about privacy then any other i have met. there is absolutely no way to block ips from being seen by everyone. this i know to be 100 percent correct. now just for shits and giggles explain your banning/multiple accounts procedure. if you can explain that without using an ip addy i will tip my hat too you and tell you i dont know what im talking about but untill then the phrase believe me or trust me is just one im not buying sweetheart.

I've banned people. Many times. You just ban the screen name. They can re register 5 mins later, if they want. No IP required nor seen. I'm outta here. I can't convince people of what they don't want to believe anyways.
