securing doors and windows?

Hello

How common is it for a burglar to break in through a window? What can I do to prevent this from happening?

I was thinking about using 2x4's and nailing them to the window frame, in a similar way to jail cell bars, that way if anyone did try and break in through a window they wouldn't be able to get in as easy as they may have thought.

Does this idea seem practical? Would it work?

Also, what about doors? I understand deadbolts keep the door from being kicked in, but the door and frame has to be strong for it to work well. What about doors without a deadbolt?
The garage door of my home is very cheap and without a deadbolt, I was thinking about using 2x4's on that door as well, to keep it from being kicked in. I don't ever use the door so it wouldn't bother me.

The home is a rental, is it legal to board up doors and windows in a rental?

Thanks

A deadbolt wont keep the door from being kicked in!!! multiple deadbolts will if you position some up high and some down low.

BTW in a rental you cant do shit, can't even give it a coat of paint,... sorry man

Thats not true, you can do stuff in a rental you just need to restore it to the original condition when you move out, or you have to pay the landlord and he'll have someone do it.

Boarding up the windows would just leave some nail holes in the window frames, I could just calk them when I am done and put a fresh coat of paint around the windows.

:muahaha: SO, you're asking if it's legal to bar-up the doors & windows in your rental house, in order for you to secure your pot grow?!? :muahaha:

Sorry 'bout that! (but the irony is funny, you have to admit!:rasta: )

If you aren't in a very high rate crime-zone, and you maintain the outside of the house so that it looks presentable (no worse or better then the neighbors), and most importantly keep your grow secret, then you shouldn't have any issues to begin with. I think that seeing 2X4 bars inside the windows of a house would be like painting a big-ole' target on your grow for LEO (and criminals - the other slime!) to aim at...

...Just my opinion.

Look - landlords aren't stupid, you start messing-up his/her house, and they're going to get cranky, and then you and you're plants are gonna end-up in the street @ high-noon, right in the middle of your 12/12 flower cycle... Always keep in mind that you have no rights as a renter whose growing pot in their house. You need to keep your grow 110% stealth. This means that you must not "conduct any business" on that property either (your neighbors ARE watching you!), and again - TELL NOBODY ABOUT YOUR GROW!!!!!!!

Yeah that is rather funny lol

Well I am not growing yet and I dont plan to tell anyone
Edit: I am growing, I got some veggie plants from Lowes to put in my cab, I got tomatoes, green peppers, some chili peppers, and cilantro. Hehehe lol

Good point about the landlord getting mad, maybe I will skip boarding the windows and just board up the cheapo garage door

I was going to get the pull down blinds and put them infront of the wood bars on the windows, so you wouldn't see the windows were boarded up from the inside, lol.
