Secret Jardin lightproof intake how-to?

Howdy folks.

I was lucky enough to pick up a little Secret Jardin DR-60, and it will hopefully be in production soon.

My only question is on the supposedly light-proof air intakes. Perhaps other owners could help out here, and tell me exactly how in the world these things are supposed to be light-proof?

Do I need to still use some ducting or something to make an S shape?

The "manual" is....a piece of paper covered in pictures. Their website is no help, and all my searching has turned up nothing in the realm of product documentation, besides the marketing brochure.

Any help is appreciated.

possibly another smaller fan hooked up to one of those cone filters.. would filter your intake air as well.

You don't really need to filter your intake air unless it is coming from outside, or travels through your reflectors. Also, your tent is small enough that a passive intake should be sufficient, because you don't have to move a hell of a lot of air through it.

Just paint the inside of some ducting flat black, and add a few bends.

wish i had invested in inlet filters... dog hairs come in the cab all the time, im hoovering constantly...:dueling:

My dog is never at my grows, so it never occurred to me. But that is a good point, I'm constantly hoovering my whole fucking house from my dog.

I might tape a piece of carbon filter prefilter or a forced-air heat filter over your intake to cut down on that.

I really need to take some pictures and put them up, just because the design seems so...bizarre.

The thing is, it's advertised as light-proof air intakes, they just don't tell or show you how to use them, and that bugs me.

Nobody that owns one of these knows?

Wonder if they have someone I can write to...gonna have to go look.

In the meanwhile, here are a couple of pics, though not exceedingly clear. It's basically two cloth tubes, reflective on one side and black on the other, with drawstrings....the only thing I can figure is that you -have- to use ducting to lightproof.

If I can't get a clear answer, I'm gonna have to ask the dealer the next time I'm there.

I'm thinking of using 4" vent tubing.
- Flush with the outside.
-- Tie the tent vent tight.
--- Use a foot or two to run along the side floor or up and tie against metal pole.

Or get some 4" PVC "S" pipe

That's what I'm leaning towards, and I'm beginning to think that's what's intended...I just don't get the...uh...double-sock? I guess so it can be tight in two places..

I'll just have to experiment. I have a feeling this may end with me drilling another hole in the wall, lol. I can see running the ducting in the closet, and drilling an outlet behind my bedroom door, down low. It would be muey incognito.

Well I have your answer.. I have a DR150 and I know many other DR tent owners on IC...

Those sleeves you took a picture of are ducting sleeves, they are meant to have 6" ducting going through them. They are lightproof meaning that there is no light let in around the ducting i.e. the sleeves that you can tighten around the ducting... But like philosophelon said you need to take short runs of 6" duct and paint the inside mat black and give it a good bend. You will be fine.

The DR tents (atleast the 150) have 5 6" air inlet/outlet points, so there is plenty of space to get enough area to use a passive intake... Wattage depending of course..

NK, thank you sir, +rep.

I think that about covers it. :) Going to pick up some MORE ducting, already have the flat black paint, and we should finally be jammin'.
