SEATTLE — Seattle's only legal pot shop is out of pot.
Owner James Lathrop says Cannabis City sold its last bag of marijuana at 5 p.m. Thursday, and he doesn't expect to get any more supply for 10 to 15 days.
Sales of taxed, legal marijuana to adults over 21 began Tuesday at a handful of stores around Washington state. Short supply has been a common worry, because relatively few growers have been ready to harvest from their bar-coded plants.
Cannabis City saw huge crowds when it opened at noon Tuesday. By the time it closed, it had sold 11 pounds of marijuana. Most of it was sold in thousands of packages of 2 grams apiece.
The going rate at the shop varied, but was about $22 a gram.

22 per gram... 28 grams per oz...x 16 oz's... = $9856.00... per pound

and they sold out of 11 lbs in 8hrs....
11lbs x 9856 = 108,416 dollars in ... ONE day... and there out of weed

tell me there isn't sum fucking state level idiots running this show.....

It will slow down big time. It only took a couple of months here. Sales have been way slower then in the beginning. Everyone wants to be first in line for some reason.

Shitty, overpriced, uncured weed? Yes please. :)

every plant that a state licensed grower possess... gets assigned a barcode...
from plant all the way to final product it's tracked by the barcode....
more of the outlandish process that has put them behind as it is....

Why, that's ......that's.....BRILLIANT!!!!

The state should mandate that approach to wheat and other grains to make sure that if they're used for alcohol it's properly taxed!

Genius!

I don't think such a highly controlled program is going to work the way they want it, too much to control and I dont think the people in charge fully understand how the world of underground cannabis production really works. It's not like these plants go from seed to bud in a week, theres atleast 100 days minimum from seed to harvest and lot of factors come in to play when trying to meet yield quotas.

The reason why the cannabis supply keeps on flowing in the black market is because it can be grown pretty much everywhere by anyone, probably every street in America has at least one grow house. I just dont see how a handful of state authorized producers will have the means to produce enough herb to supply the demand when in reality there is probably millions of pot growers working as we speak to fill the gigantic demand nationwide.

They really should open the game up to small time producers and let the small time producers sell to the large distribution outfits to keep the supply flowing.

By limiting it to a handful of producers with out of reach yield demands it is sure to bring down the quality as corners get cut to meet the demand on time. Say good bye to properly cured, well trimmed but, and say hello to partially wet, machine trimmed, uncured domestic beasters.

If they don't get their shit in check quick, I think the black market will hand them their ass. No taxes, no paperwork, low overhead, no barcodes, makes their job a lot easier.

That would make too much sense.

IMO, the production of beer is an excellent model to follow for the production of cannabis.

You should be able to grow your own g'damn cannabis for PERSONAL consumption, without ANY government oversight, the same way you can brew your own g'damn beer. There is a production limit for beer that is very reasonable, and the same thing should apply to personal cannabis.

IF, however, you choose to sell your cannabis for human consumption, than there should be licensing fee's and inspection standards to ensure the consumer is getting a SAFE product for their consumption.

Cannabis for industrial purposes should be treated the same as any other crop used for industry.

Leave it to politicians to re-invent the wheel and make shit more difficult for the tax payer.

thats another part of the fu=ed up equation.... of the finished pot / product..submitted to REQUIRED lab testing... only 30 % passed....besides the even stupider fact there is only ...ONE lab certified by the state to due the state required testing....

so lets recap.....
WA state took 618 days from when the people voted to legalize....to having... ONLY 24 stores up and running...and most of those are running out of product....

then take into consideration.... less than 350 licenses ... TOTAL for the entire state....
and for that number more than 2600 different people/companies applied for these licenses...

oh and don't forget theres only 18 people working the process of licensing for the whole state....

You guys don't get it. They don't want tons of people being able to compete. They want a handful of people they can control.

WA is apparently going through a clusterfuck period, thanks to the legislature & the liquor board. It's like they want it to not work.

I-502 is structurally flawed, inviting such games. It's a lesson in how not to do it.

actually... what they want is for only a handful of the stores to be successful...
then those "successful business models"... will be sold to....BIGpharm, BigTabacoo, BigLiquor, Big "who evers got the Million + price tag " to pay the state will win....

eventually it will be WAY out of the common mans hands.....

No friend, we DO "get it", and that's why we're so pissed off.

Regardless, I hold the opinion that shyte WILL change for the better in time.

Start hording your seeds and genetics now.
The trend has already started away from great well grown meds to high production high profit who gives a f about quality.
The worse their weed gets the more call for mine though pretty soon we will be considered artisans...lol but seriously You will have your Marlboro type brands and they will sell but I think no matter how hard they try they will NEVER put a small grower out of business who knows his stuff.

they DON'T want there to be enough for everyone at the legal shops. they admitted as much before it opened up. they only wanted the legal shops to be able to supply about 1/4 of the demand. that way there won't be enough legally growing to sell any out of state & bring the feds down on them/.
