sealed room info

Hey boy's been busy designing up a new room, grow system, and want to install a mini-split and cool tubes in a vertical setup.

the system will run 4 1000's in cool tubes inline vertically. air coming in from outside then outside again after cooling the lights. I have been reading about sealed rooms and have noticed that people recommend 4000 btu per 1000 watt light. My question is is this for a air cooled light or non air cooled light (like lights hanging vertical for the krusty style of plants)

the room will be about 7x7x8 high

Also i am looking for 8 inch cool tubes (i tend to think 6 inches is too restrictive) and wonder if such a animal exists?? If not is there any places you guys recommend to buy the glass tubes and the end flanges that are the same as the cool tubes? (want to make them as professional as possible) oh and each tube will be 36" so as to have 2 of them with 4 lights giving me a vertical lighting space of 6 feet.

If you do a bit of research on btu/h (british thermal units)/per hour and heat from wattage expended you will learn one hell of a lot more than asking a room full of folks with differing OPINIONS. It is all mathematical and OPINIONS count for nothing, nothing at all.

We are on this earth for such a short period of time and there is so much to learn.

I'm kinda wondering the same thing. I'm pretty sure that the 4000 btu per 1KW is for non-cooled lights but I'm still curious as to how many btu are needed for cooled lights. I know that would all depend on how many lights, how many cfm are being drawn across them etc....but a rough estimate for say 4kw w/ at least a 12" can for hood cooling.

My guess / opinion would be around 2000 btu per 1kw for air cooled lights that are adequately air cooled.

A bit short on the conversion table. 3.423 btu X 1000 watts per hour. 1000Watts x 3.423 btu/h= 3423 btu's of heat per hour that needs to be dealt with in maintaining room temperatures

No matter how you deal with the heat the Original Equation remains the same, you have to treat the heat generated by ALL heat emitting sources in the grow area.

Your guess/opinion of 2K btu per kw depends on the temperature of the outside air pulled across the lamps for cooling prior to being discharged to the outside. Cooling has a greater value in the dead of Winter and of less value during higher outside summer temperatures. However it can provide cooling to an extent.

It is STILL all MATHEMATICAL and the values have to be known before a resolve can be CALCULATED, and I emphasize the word "calculated".

screw it will just install per 4000btu per 1000 just to be safe.

like the 10 inchers cool tubes but looking for something more custom i guess...Does anyone know where one would buy the metal end pieces that the cool tubes use? Is it a standard part or custom part, and is it available in 8-10 inch sizes?

with cooled lights, and the cooling air being seperate from the room air all together, you don't need a great deal of air conditioning. I dont know about how to impliment formulas that are geared to non growing situations, but Ive got 2500w or aircooled lights in a sealed room with 6000 btu and it holds on just fine. My space is poorly insulated and otherwise outside, and in the 100+ summer it has trouble keeping up, but it will still keep things around 93 even then, Of course the final decision depends on how well insulated the room is and what climate you live in and what season you grow in, but you surely can get by with less than 4000 btu per 1000w with well designed aircooled lights.

You also have to be careful about putting too much A/C in such a space. the cycle time of the system to keep it cool can be too short to adequately dehumidify the space, in which case you would need a separate dehumidifier.

btw i had mondo 10 inchers and threw then in the trash last week ,there junk ,6 inch tubes reestrict air flow and increase cfm ,i also hve 12000 btu a/c under the steps ,along with the carbon scrubber,there will be co2 injection inthere as well ,as a seed chamber ,

Wantaknow, I am going to probably buy cool tubes for a garden soon and was wondering about what you said above. So you find the 10 inch not as good as the 6? Do you mean the 10 inch don't pass the air along fast enough to cool. I can see that as the fan would have to be hella powerful to push it along as fast as a 6 inch would. Just curious. If you could elabourate that would be great. I don't want to buy something and have to purchase another right after 'cause it doesn't do the trick. Its not the money, it's the time - well, may be the money a bit.

yeah thats it in part ,but i had a fan failure and the tubes melted ie mondo tubes so iwent with glass this time ,it is much better ,there from hid hut ,good stuff,quailty made and cools better,hope this helps

what is the thickness of the cool tubes glass??

1/4", 1/8" ??

something else?

also what is the recommended cfm flow rate per 1000w light?

this is a guess on thickness around 3/16 dont really know what is recomended i have a 8 inch intake vortex necked down to 6 inch and it does well ,i run 3k inline on one fan pulling through the ducting and tubes
