Sealed room, door or zipper?

Y

I am going to partition a couple corners of the basement. 2 walls are foundation, and two walls will be 2x4 framed, covered in Panda film.

I was thinking of using a zipper door but think I would prefer the solid door. Security isnt an issue since the room walls are just going to be poly. I may throw up drywall later or OSB for support behind the poly, but the poly is going to be the only thing sealing the room.

Any opinions on zipper door versus solid door?

something to think about not mentioned is a velcro door. using velcro strips and black/white poly a door any size or shape can be made. a removeable brace is sometimes needed depending on size of the entry point.

a solid door would be very nice now that you mention it! boils down to preference in the end.

good luck with your choice

I see GTB beat me to it, great idea

i'm currently constructing mine. i'm going with the panda film int he whole room to seal it (ceiling too), and then using 2 zippers at each side of the door to make a roll up door, then a real door in front of that, to catch any light leaks, and just for security.

so imo: go with both! :joint:

I'm in the process of deciding on this very issue in the construction of my room. Currently I have velcro applied - I'll let you know how it goes & if I find anything better if it'll help. I'm trying to figure how I could incorporate a solid door or if just the velcro would be just as good. My room is sealed by poly and I'm about to line the outer sides/ceiling with insulation.

i recently constructed a grow room in a basement with only panda film and went the zipper only route...

wish i hadn't. as everyone else has said the zippers leak light and are a pain in the ass to zip. i had to attach another piece of panda in front of my door with a bunch of velcro which works much better.

yeah i was going to say, an easy way to block the light leak from a zipper, would be cut like a 4-6" wide piece of poly the entire height of the door, and duct tape one side of it so its similar to a flat on a pair of jeans..does that make sense?

I've built a custom wood door on the outer wall, and then zipper doors on the internal room/space. I've got poly flaps to cover the zippers.. works pretty well..

I do like the velcro idea.. Good idea!

I dont even know why I asked. I pretty much knew a door would be better. I pictured a zipper/velcro just getting in the way and getting ripped/snagged

I will probably use an exterior door

My room has panda with a zipper and a door. Id rather have a door installed that is air/light instead of adhesive spraying and using up panda film every now and then. But im just working with what I have. I feel that none of my "sealed" grows were really 100% sealed because of door and inlet wiring.

Which door from homedepot/lowes would you install for a sealed grow?

Door with an inner zipper door. That's how mine was setup. The stick on zipper I picked was a heavy duty "long term use" one and I think that made a major difference. My initial setup had a cheap "paint tarp zipper" and that one not only immediately leaked light (no over flap) but the adhesive on it gradually failed.

The tiny amount of light that the zipper leaked was stopped by the door w/o having to light proof the door.

I like magnets instead of velcro. I like to put the "hinge" on the top, and use the magnets for weight as well, on the bottom. Negative pressure can be used to help keep it flush.

My vote for is velcro with a good overlap. for total discretion it's even better to have an inner door of held in with velcro and an outer wood/solid door that camouflages the cabinet - the velcro door will do a great job of keeping the light in but it will look slightly odd - how many items of household furniture do you know with velcro doors!?
