Scrubber or VaporTek Optimum 4k in Homebox L'ish

Well, The title pretty much explains it all. I have been reading (only about 10 pages worth) the VaporTek Optimum 4000 thread

http://icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=11927&highlight=vaportek

and have been wondering what the best route to go would be. It would either be between putting a can 66, like 429cfm filter (would anyone say a can 33 200cfm filter would be fine for that space or just pay an extra 70 and get a bigger filter to ensure no smells?) and a 6" vortex in the little wimpy ass 3' 3.5" x 3' 3.5" x 6'7" tent. or throwing a stanley blower on 1 of them homemade scrubberslike in the threads (new one i have sitting around, but only like 12-18 lbs? who knows ) and a VaporTek in the grow cab to keep the sounds down. They both run about the same price.. but i would like to keep the sound to a minimum for when i have surprise cocksuckin visitors.

if its better to just go the scrubber route and a fan just to be safe i will have to settle for the noise, but i want to hear if it would be okay to just use a vaportek.

btw, the tent will be for flowering.

thanks all

I think these are best left to micro grows. You can get some sizable plants in that tent and with them comes sizable smell.

My new 8 Mile from Mandala, at 3 weeks old, FAR out stinks my last plant at harvest, a 14 week Destroyer. My DIY Odrorsock is already overloading. I don't even want to think of the stench when it actually starts to flower. And I'm only growing one plant. I've got my brand new S&P on the bench for wiring. Built my DurbanPoison's filter last night. Just waiting for my bulk carbon to arrive.

Your Vortex noise can be tamed to stay inside the room, but, anyone in the room will know it's on and ask. If you can't put the fan in the attic, be prepared to lock the door.

Verdict?

Verdict?

Thanks for the reply FreezerBoy. So what is your suggestion? buy a real deal scrubbed and just throw on the 6" vortex. The tent will be in a closet so im hoping i dont get too much noice outside.

Any other thoughts? Actually picking this up for tomorrow so i can setup over the weekend.

Without knowing about your lamps, a 6" sounds like overkill.

fan-intake calculator

Ventilation 101 See post#6 esp.

My cab is only slightly smaller than yours. Before IC, my grows were sad and puny. As were the odors. Since coming here, yield has gone through the roof and stench came with it. Hang at IC long enough, you'll start to stink something awful. And I mean that in the good way.

Figure the fan power you need. Then consider going one model up so you can move the same air at a lower speed (with a controller) and thus lower volume. Though, in a closet, that may be stealth overkill. Once you've determined the fan, DIY or buy a proper scrubber. Commercial scrubbers should have a fan rating. DurbanPoison's link has a DIY formula to follow. If you can't match exactly, filter should be "larger". Too small it may not work. It will certainly fail sooner and carbon isn't cheap ($5 a lb in the stores, $2 a lb in bulk on eBay)

At your size, I think a real scrubber is inevitable. I'm no genius but, I tried hard to pull it off. No go. Not with the growing tricks I've learned here. Oh, for the days of being young and stupid with a sad and puny grow. Po' Freezer's got too much weed :badday:

the vaportek will cover it, however, id still go with the scrubber. Ive got both and would nt risk growing with just one mate

What about a 4 or 5" Fan and acoustic ducting, its pretty quiet?? you can turn it off for a bit if people come round. or just run your light cycle during the night so the fan isnt on in the day:)

I will be throwing A 600 watt digi in sunleavea sunbright hood. 4" holes on the hood. I guess the way to go would be the 6" which I can speed
Control on the over sized scrubber can 66 so I can scrub 3x+ the size of my room every min. I will be packing the 3.35'x 3.35' area. The cubic feet are only ~ 75-80 ft^3. So far everything has been beyond stinky lovely Skunk smelling shit even though they aren't all skunk strain so I expect nothingless

In that size tent you will be fine with a Can 33 and the 6" Vortex. I run the 33 and a 6" Vortex in a DR120 and DR150W with 600w and have no odor issues.

Thanks

Thanks

I ended up getting the can 66 to use with my 6" fan, 666 -lucky #. I got the tent and all. Just thought for the extra few bucks I might as well go a bit bigger to be 100% safe. The h-store said that a vaportek was good but a scrubber was a for sure thing. Now to get it to be quiet is the next trick. My room with a 66 and two 6" is noisy from wthin 5 feet

How do you run your intake/out in this thing?

How do you run your intake/out in this thing?

Are the cross bars on this thing strong enough to hold 75lbs? The box says it holds 50kg, 2.2lb per kilogram is 110 lbs. i have some weight (35lbs) still left over, but my can 66 scrubber/6"fan would be hanging in that shit... and if it fell..... it would not be nice LOL. my600w lamp would obviously also be hanging and come down and there would go my glass and bulb. this is the only way i can really run things so that i can scrubb the air to the outside of the tent and bring new air in from another room. Is 35lbs left enought to keep everything up in the air?

Is 1 6" vortex 449cfm on a 66 filter enough to scrub 175cubic foot room and blow through a 1k with a total of 5 ft of ducting before exiting the room?

its GOOD

its GOOD

Well, for anyone who is going to buy a tent like this, i can say that the cross bars have sucessfully held my cann 66 scrubber up, my 6" vortext fan connected to it, and sunbright hood with 600watt bulb, up with what appears to be no problems. I connected the fan on the speed controller. and only threw up insulated ducting on half of it as i got tired of cutting but ill go back and do it.

As for the 1k, i noticed that when i took off one 6" from the system the room went up 3-4 degrees. from 68-71/2.

I have to say i am very pleased with the homebox tent. It went up like cake, cam down like cake, and up again like cake with no instructions :joint:

Sorry no pics. I gave up pics when i left the last forum :(
