Scrog method examples

Hello all. I am about to use the scrog method for the first time and would appreciate as much info as I can get. I am going to build it with 1.5" PVC pipe and I know what dimensions I am going to build. My main questions are

1. How far apart should I tie the strings? I am guessing about 4" apart.

2. How far should the canopy be from the lights?

3. Just space the flower spots evenly on the canopy right? I am sure I will figure it out by it cant hurt to ask.

Examples I am going to mimik:

4" sounds a bit large. I used 1" plastic mesh which was a bit small but worked well. The plastic allowed for squares to be enlarged simply by cutting out pieces of mesh. Towards the outside, you can see larger holes at 1:00 o'clock and 3:15. Theres another at 8:50 along the dark edge of the tub.

Distance depends on your lamp. As close as you can without burning yet, high enought to cover the garden's footprint. This should give you an idea.

I just kept poking things back under the screen until buds started forming.

Hey, didnt used a grid (btw i made a little mistake, failed tryin to make a concave canopy vs light source) but the whole ddesign is close; for 400w hps cool tubed i had the light source at ~25 cm form center of canopy, btw without cool tube it would be ~25 cm
From the most distant bud distance was arround 60 cm.
[For 600W maybe have to X 1,5 (didnt tested)]

Some others in my gall

What are your lights power ?
edit: oh 2*400 ok...

Peace

Ok, so I plan on tieing the string about 2-3 inches apart. Anyone else care to chime in? How far from the lights should the canapy be? I know buds will grow above the scrog, but how high? With CMH you can get closer, but not that close.

Need more info. How big a lamp. My 250 CMH can hang within 2". 400s maybe in the 4-6 " range. Use the old "back of the hand trick" Stick your hand in at canopy height and leave it there. Does it hurt? Then you're too close.

How tall the colas? Depends on strain. I had some in the 16 inch + range but was growing a 17 week sativa that never stopped stretching. I ended up bending them over like candy canes or coiling them into pigtails ...

Check the cola on the right. It's more than half the length of the pvc frame which is 29" long. The one in the back at the middle is almost as long as the frame.

I am under the impression that a trellis has the large 4"6"/etc holes mainly for supporting a huge lot of colas where a scrog has much smaller holes (down to chickenwire) and more intended to keep the whole plant's buddage atop the screen with an even canopy, sacraficing large colas for even sized buds.
The distinction is made because trellises dont have budsites pruned below the screen where most scrogs do.
is that correct??

I made this for less than 10 bucks at home de-pot: four 10' pvc pipes, four connectors, and one 3'x10' piece of cement reinforcement wire(2"x2" wire sheets; $3) in the building materials area near the chickenwire.

1 plant under 800w 4'x5' scrog with 2" holes:

Freezer boy thank you for some inspiration. Cannabean, thank you as well.

Here is what I concocted. I plan on cuting out the 1 inch squares to 2 inch's, and dropping it about another 3-4 inches.

Do you think those are good alterations?

Wow! Nice set-up. I'd drop the screen but, I'd be worried about getting to the back plants. How are getting back there? Crawling under the screen?
