Scrog from seed or Clone?

Getting some seeds and wondering what is best?

Is it better to raise a healthy mom and take cuts then do scrog? or should you take cuts just before flower and turn the cut into a mom for cuttings latter?

I would take cuts right before flower that way it gives you a chance to work with the plant and see if its really worth keeping as a mom. What type of beans are you getting? if its an unknown seed i wouldnt even think about making her a mom until you see what the finished product is. Even if it is of known genetics I would still like to see what pheno it turns out to be before turning her into a mom...

The only way to optimize a scrog is to know your strain.

The only way to get to know a strain is to grow it a few times.


Basically you can run seed the first time, take clones, flower out the seed plants and find out how they react.

You'll be looking for the ones that produce the same size buds on all nodes and you'll also be looking to see how much they stretch.

Make your selections from the clones accordingly. Oh, label them well. LOL

you can scrog either just fine but clones are more amenable to scrogging - they have a bit less vigor, and they tend to branch out easier than plants grown from seed. also with a regular seed plant you really need to sex them before you start training them under the screen otherwise it can turn into a waste of time if they are male.

Thanks everyone... I have OGR wifi and Skywalker OG. Both are in female seed form.

So far... leaning towards taking cuts just before flower. Can anyone see why I should change my mind as there are some good thoughts here.
