Has anyone successfully scrogged form non feminized seeds? I kind of want to scrog my WW and AK 48 from seed, but i know there would be definte issues so if anyone has done this let me know, if not ill just grow em out and get some mothers and scrog it next time around

yea just grow to the third node, flip to 12/12 sex them, then reveg them till there 12in tall slap a screen over them and bam you have scrog, just be sure no males are left as getting one out of a scrog would be a pain.

I'm doing it now. I kept plants in separate buckets until they sexed, pulled the male and then put down the screen. But, I'm growing a plant with a 120 day flowering period.

If you're growing something with a shorter period and want to start scrogging before sex, give plants individual screens and containers so males can be pulled without disturbing the girls.

Another option would be to make a modular SCROG. On the link below, BigFatJ SCROGs on an individual plant basis. By doing this, you would be able to remove any males during flowering without having to untangle them from the females. Check out how he just lines his plants up like on a grid.

Take it easy.

**EDIT: Wow! Wake and bake got the best of me. Freezerboy pretty much said the same thing, so now you just have some pictures to go along with it :)

Based on what you said, you are going to figure out who the females are and THEN throw the screen on? Unless you are pre-sexing and reverting back to veg, your screen is going on there way too late. Ususally you want to weave you plants into your screen for awhile, filling up the screen to 70-80% full, and then flower.

Feminized seeds are the only way of knowing your seeds are female from the start. Otherwise, you do not know if a plant is male or female until it has been switched to 12/12 light schedule, which allows hormone levels to build up in the dark period and causes flowering to begin. Little white "hairs" (pistals) are females, balls are males. Look at the nodes (where the leaves connect to the plants) for these characteristics. Check every day. Hermies are possibility too, so be diligent.

I would not recommend SCROGing with regular seeds unless modular SCROG is used, as listed above. SCROG is the method by which you maximize light usage by creating an even canopy. Using regular seeds, you are looking at the possibility of males which means large gaps in your canopy, thereby defeating the previous objective of maximizing light usage.

Feminized seeds or female clones are the way to go for SCROG. Then you are free to weave your web of weed. I've always liked to figure out the maximum area available, usually the dimensions of my enclosure, lay a net over it. And then put plants under and fill up the screen. It is all about having your PLANE of LIGHT occupied by the exact same size PLANE of PLANTS.

Preflowers.... sure it could still hermi. I can see preflowers when they're under 24 hours of light.

Best way to scrog with reg seeds...

OPTION A - step 1, determine sex. step 2, SCROG as usual.

OPTION B - modular SCROG. see link below (same as previous link). In simple terms: SCROG on an individual plant basis, each plant has its own screen. Remove males when identified. Place remaining females in the plane of light. If you end up without enough females to fill the plane, either set one free (remove the screen) to fill the space, or simply use the best areas (areas with the most light exposure, closest to the bulb) and have the lesser areas (areas with the least amount of light exposure) empty.

The idea is to fill half the scrog prior to 12/12 and let the preflower stretch fill the remaining screen. By flipping first you fail to make full use of the screen. Only reason I sexed first is I'm growing a sativa strain with a 15+ week flower period.

If you have unsexed, faster flowering plants, use individual screens.
