i just got back from home depot shopping around for a heavy duty timer and other things, when i noticed Scotts Organic Choice potting soil. I co-incidentally needed to transplant one final gal into her final container so i decided to grab a sack of the organic stuff and a sack of perlite. Im pretty tired of driving 30 miles to my nearest gro shop to get those expensive sacks of fox farm soils, hopefully this stuff form home depot will work decently. The fox farm stuff is worth the money, considering i never had a problem with that soil(and i have encountered problems with regular potting soil, hope this organic stuff is better). so has any one used this stuff and is does it work better than scotts regular potting soil(i hope so). *nycdF042* :chin:

I used it and didn't like it. I had fungus growth on top of my soil. It's not bad soil but not my type. Tell you the truth I haven't really found a good potting soil I really like. I think I'm going to check out Fox Farms Ocean Forest this fall. Scotts soil has alot of peat in it. I think that's why I had fungus growth on the top because of the moisture content.

totaly wack! i figured and i agree...theres no other soil on the market that compares to fox farm that i can get easily. Do check out the fox farm it is truly awesome stuff but alil expensive. I will be adding tons of perlite and dolo lime(pulverized) of course to this mix i hope that helps any fungus issues...the bag smells like blood/bone meal i hope thats not fungus already growing! the fox farm soil didnt smell as pungent and im sure had the same if not more ammendments

Its hard finding a good soil when you don't have a hydro store near by. Here's the stuff i was using with good results. Its OMRI rate and not bad. I would add alittle bone, blood meal and some more perlite. Not bad stuff and you can find it at Wally-World. Just a replacement for good soils found at hydro stores like Fox Farm.
take care,

nycd, does your HD have any spag peat in small bales or loose. Grab a bale some lime and perlite and make your own.
My HD has Lamberts which is peat but i've gotten the bales of peat too

oh well crapola...this tuff is garden mix..lol NOT for containers...i didnt see that when i got it.....i really dont think this stuff is suited for containers...it has no perlite in it at all and its very heavy looking....im sure even if i added a bunch of perlite and peat moss it would still not work well...ill be hitting up home depot tomorro to return it...i guess ill just drive to the grow shop and get the right stuff, im sure its worth the ride rather than experimenting with this stuff...if im near a walmart ill see if they got that stuff
