“The CNOs exhibit ultra-bright visible-light emission with an efficiency (or quantum yield) of 40%,” Dr. Shirai says. “This value, which has never been achieved before, is about 10 times higher than that of previously reported CNOs synthesized via conventional methods.”
It's about the efficiency of HID lamps. Modern LEDs are way higher.

So the first tests of a brand new product are already at HID levels, and can possibly in the future be used as a car wrap...

Awesome!! Go Fish!!!

This tech isn't gonna be found on grow lights anytime soon methinks. This is used more for zapping cancerous growths inside brains and/or taking pictures of them, hi rez displays, smaller stuff atm. Now if they can improve the efficiency/efficacy of 3D light pipes on large scale applications in the near future, (which could be used to make perfecly even PAR maps by piping some light from the center to the sides and corners), that would be something we may see in the near future. Cool article though. Guess it's time to invest in fisheries 🧑‍🎓, LOL.

What are Light Pipes?

"3d printed light pipes (also called light tubes) are components that are used to redirect light from its source to a desired location. Some of the most popular applications for light pipes include vehicles and electrical instruments where they are used to illuminate indicators such as the dashboard on your car or backlight displays such as the letters on your keyboard. Other applications include Solid-state lighting, where light pipes are used as mixers to create a wide range of colors from various multi-colored LEDs, and projectors, where light pipes are used to create an even light distribution."
