Scheduling it all out (Clone+Veg+Flower)

Let me preface this question by saying... hopefully you know where I'm coming from :) I haven't grown quite yet, but the time is drawing near. I have trouble asking questions on here sometimes because the answer is usually "it just depends man!"

I've been frequenting the vertical forums on a fairly regular basis. High plant numbers determine yield it's said. The setup I plan on using (eventually) would utilize 2 or 3 600 watt HPS because they're the most efficient and should help me fly under the radar a bit. I'm trying to avoid going any smaller, just as I'm avoiding going bigger.

I've seen grow setups utilizing one space for both veg and flowering phases and I've seen setups that don't. Then there's the flip/flop aspect of running two flowering spaces 24/7. (again, seems the most efficient way of going about it so I plan on doing it in the future, probably at another location)

Can someone explain to me or point me towards an explanation as to how people schedule their grows and build their systems around it?

2 or 3 600 watt bulbs stacked in the middle of an 8x8 or so space.
A reasonably high number of plants (disregard legality for moment)
Enough space for the plants to not crowd each other out. Enough plants to make you dread harvest.

Some possible options off the top of my head:

As soon as the clones attain roots, they go into a flowering space. Maybe this eliminates the need for a vegging space (could be a great thing), but does it make sense to ya'll?

Flowering 10 weeks? Veg the next set of plants for 9 weeks in meantime. Makes for some large plants, how big? Depends on strain I know, I know... (pick one out if it helps), but too big?

Flowering 10 weeks, but staggered (2nd space filled 5 weeks after 1st space is underway). Veg plants for 4-5 weeks, plop into flower setup.

As far as my space goes... If I use an 8x8 dedicated to flowering, I'll have about 4x8 to dedicate to cloning/veg, then 2x10 to walk/move/breath in... unless I move a wall back, which I was considering

Why not just start running it and see how it goes? I'm sorry, I know that's probably a worse answer than "It depends". lol.

It sounds like you just need to plan whether you're going to run bigger plants or smaller plants. If you're counting on ten weeks veg it sounds like you're going to want to run bigger plants.

One thing I've learned though in planning out new things, don't count on everything going perfectly i.e. plan some setbacks in your time lines if you're cash cropping. Everything going better than expected is better than being caught by surprise and not being able to meet previously set deadlines.

I run a perpetual grow, three rooms, two bud, one veg.

I cannot keep them coordinated. The budding times do not match the veg times no matter what. This is a problem that has me throwiing out oversized veg plants or putting tiny plants everywhere.

I tried a clone mother available full time to take clones as needed. That did not work well for me, the clone mother grew too fast.
I keep a pair of separate pots for cloning and after taking two sets of clones either bud the moms or toss them, depending on size.
I hate to throw away plants but trying to make an inappropriate plant grow in an incorrect setting is a time waster, better to select proper sized plants and dispose of the others.

How to get the correct number of clones timed to be the right size at the right time, it just depends, man.

you will never completely balance things and keep production at an optimum.

Take 10 clones, flower (5) for five weeks, and veg (5) for five weeks.

Take 10 clones from the (5) veg, and then put those (5) in flower.

You now have 10 in flower, 10 in veg, and a stagger. Expand from there.

Personally i need a 2:1 flower:veg space
and a 2:1 veg plant #: flowering plant #

I run 6 plants in veg for 5 to 6 weeks and I have two 6 bucket setups in my flower room. Every 5 to 6 weeks one of the flowering systems is harvested and cleaned for the next round. Six vegging plants move over and I start 8 new seeds and take the best 6. I run all hydro but I think dirt or coco would give more flexibility.

Sea of Green, SOG.

  1. Healthy mother plants.
  2. Reliable cloning technique.
  3. Ebb/flow, clones go in at 4 per sq/ft.
  4. No veg time, veg time is a waste of time...clones straight on to 12/12.
  5. Grow single cola style, trim lateral growth.
  6. Maintain mother plants, do a clone run 3 weeks before harvest.
  7. After harvest new clones go straight in.
  8. Works best with indica dominant strains.
Cheers.

I keep my mums for 1 year then discard them and start new ones in a staggered fashion so I always have a fresh supply of healthy clones.

how i do it to keep plant numbers down is take a plant put it under t5 lighting on a 20/4 schedual for 6 weeks then cut clones 2 weeks later after clones are rooted i throw them in a different area and light and schedual 12/12 .. repeat process with the clones

Veg for 9 weeks and you'll end up with 10 foot tall monsters.

Going straight from root to flower with a bunch of small plants is a SOG or Sea Of Green.

Do some research on the forums about the different methods, and figure out which will work best for you.
