Scary STUFF about cell phones!!!!!

Useless

Wouldn't that be the same as a wire tap? Just utilizing the already in place mic?
I believe a warrant is required for a wire tap.
OHHHH wait! That's right, this administration doesn't follow the constitution and makes up new lies based on fear and the threat of terrorism to twist the constitution as they see fit, i.e. the patriot act, so they can go against the constitution as they see fit. Forget what the founding fathers say! Who are they but a bunch of dead guys from 200 years ago?
If Bush and his regime can stand in front of Congress and say that illegal, warrant-less wire tapping of US citizens was necessary to fight the "war on terror", what makes you think they wouldn't do this?

I believe it was Thomas Jefferson who said something to the effect of "It is the not only the rights of citizens to question their government, but it is their responsibility to do so, and to revolt against a government that no longer serves the interests of it's people."

That utube video was heavily edited.

The full FOX news report would have been done about a year ago.

I think the story is full of crap.

Over here I've been trying to find out how to get some very simple data:

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=61210

Note how little information is available from raw cell phone signals.

To monitor your cell phone would require the help of the cell phone company. To get that requires a warrant.

The reason it requires a warrant is that the phone company doesn't want to get sued.

Most cell phones have programming modes which you can access by punching in a code. Most of em I've seen have had an option to change the GPS settings. I've never played with it, but I'd say if you mess with it enough, you could disable the GPS or atleast throw the Man off.

You don't need a warrant to intercept calls coming from a cell phone because it's open air. I forget what term was used but this has been going on for a while now. Police can set up a transmitter and intercept your calls and this information can be used in court even though a warrant wasn't acquired.

Even police using the cell phones mic to listen in on callers isn't a new thing. I don't know why it's just now being talked about. Peace.

Also, the best way to beat the man with your cell phone is to take out the battery if you are up to something you know can get you into trouble.

They are not actually talking about interepting/recording phone CALLS they're talking about newer phones having the ability for a LEO to send a signal to them and they basicly turn into a BUG, where they can listen in on the phones mic, even if the phone is OFF it would still secretly be broadcasting what the mic is picking up. So you turn off the phone, completely off, and they can still listen to what your saying near the phone.

is there a way to determine whether or not your phone has this "capability"?

i cant stand this crap...i mean if someone really wanted and was bored enough they could just dial in numbers and listen to people...sounds similar to on-stars listening device where they also can hear you without the on-star enabled

Raeky, this is what I stated and yes it's been going on for a while now. This is nothing new.

Maybe, I should have used "cell phone users" instead of "callers" to be more accurate.

Very, very, very old news my friends.......(I've being doing it and instructing it since 99')...

Also is related to sensitive locations...(pulling battery when halfway there....GPS/triangulation issues)

Edit: And, it's not only the FBI either btw:smoke:

Turning off your GPS won't help hide your location much if at all. They can triangulate using your signal strength and call tower locations to get within a few feet of your location easily. The only way to win this particular game, is not to play it. If your doing something you want to keep a secret, don't take a cell phone with you. Hell don't take any electronics with you. (Or you could walk around in a Faraday cage all day but that will draw more attention than a tin foil hat would)

In a similar way that is how they pull an "unknown number"....

If your using the phone, and your under surveillance and they want that number, they'll have the number and your voice on it in a couple days fairly easy..

Phones are on hand for emergencies......not discussion of questionable activities...

This looks to be near to being the latest technology on this topic:

http://www.global-security-solutions.com/GSMPassiveCellularInterceptor.htm

I see nothing to indicate that this device could turn your cell phone into a eavesdropping device when the phone is not in use.

Could someone direct me to where the required equipment to do so is? I'd like to see the technical specs.

thanks
