What's new

saving pollen sacs BEFORE they open?

couldnt find anything useful here or on google about it;

i had a bagseed grown out took a few clones and seeded it
trew out the clones but saved one
thats in flower at the moment, week 3 or 4 or so and it grew 3 pollen sacs, no banana, actual male sacs

i lost (i blame the faries) my old pollen so i want to save this w/o seeding the plant

at the moment theyre closed but the line where they will split is visible, at what point can i save the pollen, do i have to wait till it opens (which mean having to bag it and blabla) or can i save them already?

This is a tricky one

Rarely does one save the immature 'nanners' better to store the stalk with the 'nanners' attached, into a plastic bag or jar with a teaspoon of rice in the freezer, to suck up moisture, for no more than a month(imo) then when ready gently thaw him out, place him in a jar of water, with soft light for 24 hours, as he defrosts.

to kick him up, insert the jar into a clear plastic bag with a couple of apples, the gas off the apples will ripen the head in 2-3 days, there are many tough variables to this technique, by far the best is to grow the male out collect the pollen and store in the freezer with again some rice to absorb moisture

good luck

I've never had luck harvesting pollen from male flowers unless they are open. I like to put them in spaces with zero air movement and use a spoon to bump them and try drop it all in the spoon. Though someone said cut the branches off, stick them in water they still open. It's fucking true... I saw it happen. Pretty amazing.

Just collect it as they open, my opinion anyway

Are they true male flowers? Have they dropped like 5 anthers?

If so put them in a small sieve over a plate or shallow glass and let them dry out and see if they release.

Something to consider…if the plant puts out female flowers in the end, you may be dealing with a hermie.

Good luck.

alright, ill just keep an eye on it and bag em, can always try more fancy experiments when i have pollen stored

it is indeed a hermie, however this strain red pheno is 'lost' and as its a personal med grow i dont mind keeping an eye on it, it tends to put out 1-3 bananas or sacs in total and only on one branch; easy to pick out

and with some pollen i could cross it with a better tasting one; it has lovely colors and has a very short flowering time, but the taste is too sweet for me
