saving my hps 600watt bulb

So the other day working in my grow box, I accidentaly pushed the hps light system till it was touching a wire...I started smelling burning rubber... so I just went and removed the ballast from the wall socket...
fortunately I had a spare bulb so I changed it to prevent esplosion or something, since I heard in such cases the hps bulbs can explode,

so the problem now is how to remove the hardened plastic from the hps bulb witouth destroying that bulb? I just bought like two months ago...will really like to save it...any special liquid or something? I had wanted to scrap it off with a razor but I'm afraid I'm gonna break the bulb...
all suggestions are welcomed.

Working slowly and steady with a sharp razor will not break the bulb. Then you can remove the remaining fine goo with high % alcohol.

I think thats a myth that hps bulbs will explode if you get fingerprints and stuff on them. The bulb would actually still work if you removed the glass. The part that is pressurized is the white light arc thing inside. But then it probably would burn out and pop since its unprotected. You should look this up for yourself. Myths die hard.

Acetone will melt the plastic away leaving the bulb intact.

Get it at a hardware store and use some on a sponge and use little of elbow grease.

Or if you can soak the plastic on the bulb in acetone like this video.

Be careful.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Acetone is very flammable.

Do not have a cigarette or joint with you when using the stuff.
After your bulb is cleaned. Wash it with a sponge or rag with
cold water and let it dry before using it again.

Acetone on a bulb that gets plugged in could lead to a fire or worse.

Don't take chances.

Is acetone cheaper then isoproply? lol I heard you can use this instead to make hash oil.
