Well the short story is that I have recently (in the last 4 months) been divorced and it will be final next month. At the beginning of this my place was broke into and they found my grow and ripped it. So I did the only thing I knew to do at the time and that was to tear down for the obvious reasons security from the divorce and the most important from the thieves. Which I believe now was kids/thugs just looking for something to steal and sell and stumbled on to my grow ... My fault for becoming complacent.

Jump forward to today and my position is this with the cost of living, realistically thinking I am in the best position I could be in money wise and that is staying in this house and living here until things change for the better. My concern is this and the only reason I air my dirty laundry on a open forum is you are the only group that may be able to relate with a honest answer. Should I attempt to grow here again or am I compromised beyond repair? I have changed my locks and am gonna make other security enhancements to deter other breakins.

Has any one else here had similar experiences? A decision I must make on my own but this is my way of collecting feedback.

Thanks

Mo,

I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago. Kids breaking into houses and stumbled upon my grow and took ozs of my finest along with some blooming plants and Trainwreck and Purple Urkle clones among other things. I decided then that I would not grow in that house again. The people who broke into my house knew that I grew and it would make me even more paranoid knowing that they may be by again in a few months to get my next crop. And it wasnt just the thieves that presented the problem but also the people they told about it. I had never told even my closest of friends that I grew and now I have thieves knowing my secret. I dont need that kind of stress.
Also, if they broke in again I would feel somewhat uneasy calling the cops to come because they as well as me would be going to jail. And even the best security wont stop a thief from coming in your house if they really want to. And when they know you have something like that in your house, they will most likely be back.
In my situation, I moved as soon as possible because I couldnt go outside my door without wondering if I or my house was secure. And always wondering who did it and being pissed off that I didnt know when they would do it again. But if its not feasible to move out then I would just not grow to be safe. Good luck to you in the future.

Hard truths but I can't afford to move right now. You would think they would try again soon since they didn't get it all the first time. You see I still can't say beyond a shadow of a doubt that it wasn't my ex-wife because she was back in town the very day it happened. Of course she says she didn't do it but there were no signs of forced entry and she was the only one with a key. Who knows? And also lots of things have moved out of this house since then when she moved out so people may think we moved.

yeah i would say no, because if one of those kids gets arrested for any reasosn and needs an out, they can point in your direction and get brownie points with LEO. Also does your ex-wife know where and what your doing? If so she has a million and one reasons to rat you out. i would just not fo it. A guy in my area got busted with a huge grow after two 16 year old punks stole one plant from his backyard and then got caugth with it and told the cops where they got it... just not worth it. Plus if you catch them in the act what do you do, you can't call the cops? what are you gonna kill them?

I agree I just thought that maybe it would be no different than someone not growing being broke in on. I mean people don't move every time something like this happens. I just hate it that I will not be able to grow until I can move. That is a depressing thought because that could be a year or better.

What a crappy situation man. I'm sorry to hear this. I phucking HATE thieves and I've had my crops stolen before as well. Definitely don't attempt to grow there again, they WILL be back. If I were you, I would try to catch those phuckers in the act and figure out a way to give them a life-altering scare.

if you must grow get a large not so nice but nice to you dog, city dog pounds are just full of good dogs waiting to be adopted. trust me most of them dogs know where there at and will be a life long companion. gaurd you and your belongings but i agree with resin [Once compromised, always compromised.] !!!

if a dog is outta the question and ya still must grow secure your home either use sticks in windows or self tapping sheet metal screws to secure the windows shut. get deadbolt locks for all you exterior doors make your home as secure as fort knox. of course you wont have armymen and tanks lol but ya get the idea

Well I thank you all for the feedback. It was as I expected it to be ... Move being the primary response. Again that is not a option right now as I just refinanced in order to appease the ex's "" half of the properties.

I expect that others out there have been through this and are just not speaking up. Either way what I decide to do will come with great thought having gone into it. I am not a large grower only for myself which is now just one.

Maj.P I have seven dogs unfortunately they are caged every time I go out so they are not much help other than making a hell of alot of noise which is a good deterrent in its self. IF I had locked that room ... my fault they never would have went in there as that is where my dogs were also. That is another reason I believe it was someone that my ex knew or her sister because if you walked up to that door the dogs would have been raising hell and most people would have not even bothered to go in there unless they knew what was in there. If I do decide I feel safe enough to do this it will be down the road not now.

Even if I decide to or not to grow here again I am still gonna make this place very hard to get into again.

More opinions please.

You got divorced and didn't change the locks .. Is trusting her that much a good idea?

We do odd and foolish things during times of emotional stress.

Mark my words .. an ex can be a bad problem. A divorce is a very very good reason to lower the trust levels.

I would guess it was the ex or someone she handed the key to. In which case they would want to keep quiet about it.

If you change the locks, you may be OK.

I know divorce can be tricky. It happened so fast ... I never saw it coming. I changed the locks that day. She has been very civil about the whole thing. She just wanted her freedom. How can you deny someone that when that's all I strive to be about. Maybe I will know the truth someday but for now I have to move on and moving on will be hard if I can't do my thing. So I gotta alot to consider still.

hey MO have you changed the locks to your house ??? ya mentioned maybe your ex's sister done this sounds like keys where involved. where i live the locksmith will come out re key upto 5 locks for 125.00$ all door's will use same key to unlock. if you havent done this yet and can afford to i would pronto, then i would go around and secure all my windows shut. wheather it be with a peice of small wood cut to length and layed in bottom window track. upto and including a small self tapping sheet metal screw directly into frame or stationary part of the window frame some. directly up against window that opens, now a window will be broken to gain entery. just a few suggestions for security precautions g/l on your decission most of all stay safe.

do your dogs tear things up when your gone is that why thier caged ??? is 1 trustable to run free in the house when your gone ??? dogs barking can be a deterant but climbing through a window or coming through the door and become face to snout is a bigger deterant lol. i would post the property no tresspassing and also beware of dog, 1 sing of each on front of home 1 of each in back on home in plain sight. this protects you as a home owner 1 a unwanted person is formally tresspassing when its posted, if the dog bites some1 unwanted your covered beware of dog signs. personally i have a sign that i dont hang it says never mind the dog beware of owner lmao

i would say no matter what you do your comprimised unless you move. no matter how much security you add it won't keep the cops out when the kids who ripped you off get busted by the cops and say your growing ten times as much weed as you really are. if these kids ripped you off it's not going to be the last time they do something stupid and that means it's only a matter of time before they get busted and try to save their asses.

if your gonna still grow.. definently fort up. and consider letting a couple of dogs loose in your house when your not there.. or chain em up close to your grow room. im sure they tear shit up like all dogs, which im sure is why u cage em. but maybe u can work somethin out in that dept.

but the wise decision is wait til you get money and move..
or rent a small/cheap apartment and grow there but still live at your original place? i dunno..
sorry for your hardships
peace

Well the reason I keep my dogs caged when I am not here is that they are males and do not tear up things but mark. It's not inhumane it gives them their own secure place when I am not here.

So anyway I guess no one here has ever had this happen, seems all I am getting is the PC answer which is great it is just hard to believe that no one here has never thought these same thoughts or been in this situation.

Don't get me wrong I do appreciate the comments and I know they are correct it is just hard to swallow. It just seems improbable that everyone just packs it in when they have been burgled and to live in fear of being a repeat is no way to live. It seems that given time and with no further incidents I would eventually be safe again ... say a year or so.

I do not believe that everyone is completely anonymous in their growing so you are at just as much risk as I am here. I know I can rationalize it but I like to hear from you all. Plus I have no one else to ask these questions to. Just feels weird posting in a growers forum if I can't grow and interact with. I have been a member here since the beginning under different versions of Mo.

Thanx all

i seriously doubt id be able to resist the urge to tie them up, at least just long enuogh to get my shit out. then maybe call the cops, you know after a day or two :)

nah good luck Mo in any case. if growing for yourself then why not stay under the limit and secure the place. if your legal i wonder if you can call the cops. god i would hate to make that phone call.

ive had this idea where i build a drywall box and put it on a track so that i can slide it against the wall behind a door and dress it up like closet, i kno it sounds a little farfetched, just another pipe dream i guess. (what the hell is a pipe dream anyways)
