Sam_Skunkman's dry sift method

Haha, ok. :)

Either way.. I think i'm about to drop something nobody is doing.. I have no doubt that Ester, Sam, and a handful of others have different methods, that are producing similar results. Which is awesome.

If there is more than just the way i'm doing it, then clearly somebody would get it eventually, anyways.

@Ester ; Pressed v unpressed hash.

well I always thought the best way would be to keep in powder form then press when you are going to smoke it,That would keep fresh for years but with hash this pure I don't think pressing it will improve the hash much, infact many of my pot snob friends would curse me for pressing such a high quality piece.
and its much easier to sprinkle/tip into your bowl/nail. just don't go knocking over your jar... powder, gone.
Ester and DSW, did you notice a diference's in high from pressing or keeping the hash loose?

My take.. not that anyone cares, lol..

I don't press it. I never have. The reason I make dry sift is because it is not touched. We make a big deal about it being 'unmolestered' by solvents, water.. etc.. A part of me thinks heat plays a part in that as well.

I have heard/read arguments that 'decarboxylation' doesn't occur fully unless you apply light heat to the dry sift and press it. I have no idea if that is true or not, and honestly - I don't care. If it's a few % stronger.. meh. I want to see my bowl of white powder absolutely go from a spoonful of powder to a giant mass of bubbling melty wonderness. (I use an Ekco smidgen, found here http://www.amazon.com/Pinch-Dash-Smidgen-Measuring-Spoons/dp/B000E8OPVS )

They are round, and the smidgen is the absolute perfect amount for a nice personal bowl.. but you are free to use any spoon you want, lol. Nice ice cream scoop of goodness on top of your bowl..

I burn it slowly, anyways. It'll be just fine. You aren't going to notice a tiny improvement from pressing it, imo. Not worth it. I love the pure white/blonde color from near pure dry sift.

I have a really good old microscope to look at it with, just no way to take a pic with it. I was taught that pressed is by far the way to store it. I have some from 2 years ago and has lost nothing as good as the day i made it. pressing breaks the crystals and releases the oils to bind it together. In All of my travels I never saw anyone that knew about the shirak that did not press it.

Use a selection of industrial sieves in similar sizes to those mentioned in many combinations wet and dry , but have never managed a product so clean unless i accept a very low yield , interested in how this pans out.

Have been experimenting with static , its proveing a fiddly way of cleaning up contaminants that would have been better avoided in the first place and probably not practical , but attracts chrys hairs and the longer flakes in preference to trichomes at around 2000 v over a distance of 10 mm , a function of mass and dipole.

Have noticed that adult mite frass is in the same size band as trichs , and would be hard to seperate by any means.

This seasons infested outdoor sieve is going to be tasty.

If that means what I think it does, then it's probably best to start a new thread......looking forward to see what your method is all about.

How do you get the stuff from top to bottom?

Theres a screen at the bottom of ea.. I can get those at the LAB but not normal stock. Special order shit. They will last a lietime if cared for proper. There the tits of sifting screens IMO..

Yeah.. I know there's a screen in each.. somebody posted the same thing a few pages back, or in the other thread.. too lazy to go look.

Not sure how it's special order. It's readily available online.

Still not even close to what i'm doing, however. Low yield + lots of refining = no point.

i believe sam stores his as dry sift, i recall a few times hearing about containers of ten year old sift or something like that.

do you put the foam strips around the bottom edge of the screen frames and drop the screen onto a hard surface ?

I love this thread and have been lurking for a long time. I feel like a dummy for always giving away my trim. I will not be doing that anymore.

Nope.

Haha, thanks. Good to hear you will be keeping your trim next time. You can make some wonderful product for very cheap.

Just stay tuned..

Have picked up many of these sieves from boot fairs or polished up as brassware in antique shops for a fraction of their initial cost , fleabay is still a good source but trichome sizes now fetch a higher price than before.

The 250 mic is well over a hundred quid new and the smaller meshes much more , laser cut below 100 mic are an outrageous price new , but do a better job with circular rather than square holes.

They work as well wet as dry , but would suggest stainless a better option if intending wet use as the brass can stain.

All the manufacturers standardised the format before the war , so all makes interchange on three standard sizes.

Have the motorised soil sample shaker that takes them and automates the shakeing process , but prefer to use them like panning for gold , normally just two with collecting pan and lid.

Would usually just use the 250 mic on top of the 90 micron , about 20 gramme of dry , cold sugar trim or seeded remains on top and gently sieved by hand as if you were panning for gold , shake and flip.

Have to judge when to stop , do it too long or too vigorously and it picks up a lot of leaf.

Resieving through the same size mesh removes a good percentage of dust and chaff if done with care , and the tiny sub trichome dust left seperated by winnowing.

As i smoke with tobacco mostly , i dont bother cleaning it too much.

Its nothing like as pure as yours but a decent compromise and takes little time , and definately retains specific flavours.
