Salvage trichs in old jars?

High everyone - Thanks for stopping in.

I did a little searching and couldnt find anything on this topic... It may be common sense and it may be easy to answer. Onward...

Times are rough and I havent had an opportunity to do any canna-cooking lately, so I thought to myself "what about all those old mason jars that are foggy with trichs?". This brought me to ponder the best way, if there is a way, to salvage the goodness thats left stuck inside my jars.

How could I get the THC into butter, oil, or in any other form, from those jars? I thought about trying to boil water in the jars with a bit of butter, almost replicating the canna-butter process.... but i have a lot of smaller jars, not one big one... so that could be tedious. If i did this... I dont know how much butter I should add because the amount of THC ill get out is really unkown.

Thoughts on the topic? Ideas? Worth it? - Let me know what you think.

Im not familiar with the whole cannabutter making process, but I got same situation than you!!! I got many jars whose bottom is glistening of those trichomes!

My solution is going to be ISO. I think that´s the best way to capture those trichomes and melt them together into delicious honeyoil :yummy:

Another + with this technique would be time. This would be very quick & effective way to make good use of them trichomes!

Are you familiar with using ISO? If not, let me know and I post you link into couple "easy ISO -threads", ok?

I was planning to do this oil thang today/tonight, so maybe you are watching honeyoil pics from Herbalistic tomorrow at the sametime at this thread;)

I konw this wasnt what you were after, jsut trying to help & give ideas...

im not sure about the ISO thing. Zymos-are you referring to the same thing?

I've read a tutorial on butane honey oil but it seemed a little confusing and made me second guess myself. Especially when there is fire involved... maybe someone could enlighten me. I'll be watching..

Around these parts, "iso" usually means isopropyl alcohol= "rubbing alcohol".
%91 if available, so there is less water to deal with.

I just meant "alcohol" generically- everclear, isopropyl, whatever is handy...

PS-there should NOT be any fire involved when making butane honey oil! (except to burn up the finished product...)

I found a great method for getting that resin off the glass of your stash jars... put them in the freezer. After they were frozen for a while the trichs just lost their stickyness and could be gently brushed off the sides to the bottom for collection.

Hope this works as good for you as it did for me. Peace.

Isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol as many people know it as, has worked for me the best. You won't get it all out, but most of it. For a quart jar a half cup of alcohol seems to work fine. You could also use any high alcohol content drink say like Gin, and make a nice tincture. No evaporation process there. Good luck and let us know how it works out. :joint:

mmm sorry for the noob comments :bashhead: but heres another one... what do you do with the alcohol after letting it sit in the jars? and how long does it need to be in the jars?

:edit: i decided to search it on my own.... i guess i was thinking of something different when i thought of the fire... "butane honey oil" i think it was called.
This is the tutorial i found that i think i will follow... although this will take a while with all my little quart jars http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=66497&highlight=iso+oil

just swish the iso around in your jars and dump off on to something to evaporate it. shouldn't take more than a couple minutes to clean all those jars out.......good look on the freezing them, im gonna try that on a few 'foggy' jars i have.

i only have about a half bottle of ISO left and i was wondering... would it be possible to swish it around in one jar and then poor it into the next jar and swish it around etc. and THEN let it dry?

You can do that for a few jars (all depends on how frosty jars are). Main thing to watch when doing it this way is the accumulation of the trich's in the alcohol. When it gets "real cloudy" and "appears" to have a little thickness to it you will want to run a new batch of the alcohol as the concentration will lose it's effectiveness. When done correctly it will look like an oil slick floating around. Heavily frosted jars for me, I can get 4-5 quart jars ran using 1/2 cup of iso.alcohol before I use another 1/2 cup alcohol to clean another batch. Hope that made sense to ya. Have fun. :joint:

Whizzard I loved your idea about Gin..I quit drinking 7 years ago...I mentioned your idea to my wife...she said "tincture my ass...he means a martini" I'm sure you weren't referring to that but she made me laugh and I thought you'd like her thought as well...yours is a great idea...DD
