Safe to get a Medical Marijuana ID Card in Cali???

I am located somewhere in southern California and I wanted to obtain a medical marijuana ID card just for backup in case
I ever got busted for growing/possession, but when I looked up the procedure for getting one, I realized that they (government)
will know a lot of info about me like my address, name, that I smoke weed, etc..

I know it should provide extra security if caught growing within the limits in California (6 plants or under) but do you guys
think its stupid to apply for one??? Am I asking to get my apartment raided? Is it worth getting one? What do you guys think?

I've been looking into it myself for legitimate medical reasons.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the card VOLUNTARY and OPTIONAL?

now granted, it will save you headaches, i.e. if you get pulled over and have the doctors note, but not a pretty little card.

and if you DID get one, and were under the limits and were not violating any FEDERAL laws nor EXCHANGING CASH for any product (unless your running a caregiver thing and they are merely covering your expenses) then you are protected under 215 and 420. No CHP can confiscate or destroy your bud (it doesnt say the same for pieces though, I'd hate to have my sack of weed, but watch my triple perc bong get smashed :badday: ) and Im looking for feedback as well regarding just local county LEO. The jist that I've gotten from reading the points in 215 is that they (leo) can't detain you longer then necessary to validate your medical claims, can't confiscate your herb, and can't arrest you. UNLESS of course you were violating other laws, such as having gram bags weighed out, having a scale along with all of it, and carrying a gun.

Yes, the card is both voluntary and optional, and would hopefully prevent any harassment or arrest by local cops if pulled over, ratted on, etc. I wonder if local cops actually do honor the card though. Does anyone have experience with this? Has anyone been caught growing the "legal" amount of plants or caught with like an eighth or any personal stash amount and let go when they showed the officer the card?

Another thing I was wondering is, since this whole registering for the card is voluntary and optional, is it worth it to register? Because by applying for the card, I am basically telling the local authorities that I am growing and they would know where I live, my name, and all that stuff. Kinda makes it easy to bust me if they wanted...

Hey, my buddy isn't 18 yet, and he asked me if you are able to apply for a club card if you have a parent or some sort of guardian come with you, or sign for you or something. Please reply.

from my experience in a med county: as long as you are within the rules, you are fine. there are some grow busts in my town, only of people over the 10 flower plant limit. the sheriff was quoted saying that if they see a Rx and the person is following the rules there is no problem.

a friend of mine was pulled over, searched, long story short, was brought in for other things. he had to get a lawyer who said "do you have a med card? no? get one! we all have our problems, there is no reason not to."

i had this same exact question, im wondering if getting the card or referal from a doctor , if thats just asking for the local cops to come raid you just to make sure you are under the limit. i have no plan on growing more then 6 at a time but still i dont want my privacy being invaded by some cops to check and make sure i have only 6. can someone in cali with a med card give us some feedback? thanks!

My local government is corrupt and arbitrary. Why, just see what they said about if your six "legal" plants are "too big"! There is NOTHING in the law saying how big your plants can get!

Maybe sometime during the next administration!(sigh!)- Granny :joint:

I just read that article in that link you posted and I think thats total BS that theyre trying to prosecute people when they think their plant is "too big" or can produce "too much" WTF!?!?

On another note, its interesting to see how supportive the sheriff in that article seems to be of the whole registering for medical cards process. It seems a little fishy to me. I know cops dont give a fuck about letting people use marijuana legally for medical or recreational purposes, there has to be some underlying motives as to why the cop in that article seems so supportive of this program.

In the article it states, "Siskiyou County Sheriff Rick Riggins said a medical marijuana identification card system would be “very helpful” for his department." Hmmm..... how would it be helpful for his department??? Im thinking it would be "helpful" to them for busting people and arresting them for going over the plant limit or possessing too much herb.

I'm still sketchy about this whole medical card thing, I'm not sure whether its worth it to register.... sigh

I believe there is a difference between getting a prescription for MMJ from a Physician and obtaining a California 215 card....

Anyone know what the situation with the Rx versus a 215 card?

you cant get a prescription for MMJ anywhere, you can get a RECCOMENDATION.

a reccomendation alone puts you under prop 215 and sb 420. you dont need the card. a lot of clubs will only allow you to enter/buy if you have a card, probably because its much easier to verify.

from my own legal standpoint I'm getting a card, not because of wanting to go to clubs, but rather so its less of a headache in getting it verified if I do come into contact with LEO

most the clubs now require a state issued ID card

For one, there is no state issued ID card, it's a county by county thing. Secondly, most clubs require one? There are hundreds of clubs, and I've never heard of one (in southern california) that wouldn't accept an original doctor's rec, as long as it's during business hours so they're able to verify with your doctor.

As to the original post, I see very little value, so far at least, in getting your county's ID card. From a legal standpoint, it does nothing that your rec doesn't do, and it does put your name on a list that the wrong people could eventually have access to. Getting your recommendation, however, is very safe, because only your doctor has your info, and he's not rushing out to sell mailing lists to the DEA.

When I was in SF all the clubs were giving me shit that I didn't have an actual id card sorry county not state. I have not been able to get one cause san diego refuses to make them and filed a lawsuit. I was eventualy allowed in most the clubs after 10/15 min of bullshitting with them but I had 1 done right refuse to let us in. since there are no clubs in san diego I assumed that with all the heat going on that they were all following that procedure.

Norcal maybe, but no one is socal has a state medical card (when I say no one I mean 98% of patients.) We all use our recommendations, along with Driver license (some will take a clinic card like ACC etc)

Well sometimes I roll around with my personal stash on me, like an 1/8 or so. I was wondering if anyone with the card had less harassment when they showed the cop the ID card.

ive decided to go get my docotor note. got an apt tomorrow, as for the card im still up in the air about it. I just want to make sure im not putting myself on a list that the cops or feds are going through, or something that would show up on a background check etc.
