the sad thing is, the liberals voted in favour of the new mandatory sentencing bill

what a bunch of losers

YEp... its hard to tell whose about what with all the trading they do up in the capital.....

Itsall about give and take..if the liberals can get support for something higher up on their agenda then they'll trade in the pot heads for it prety quick .... nothing new about that...

The Root cause I THINK , is that The PRO MJ Lobby is built on Medicinal access for a very small segment of society.. the rest just slip in through the cracks in that access... whats been granted thus far ..has been viewed by the elite as a necessary evil...

IF an issue the Elites take to heart ..say for example.... the Economics were pushed to the forefront.. NOt so much looking at the tax income that could be generated as the MONEY NOT going overseas / out of the country.... OUT of the ECONOMY....into the treasurys/economy of competitor nations..
Then YOUR painting a NO vote for total legalization as an ANTI CANADA ANTI CANADIAN vote...i.e. attacking their patriotism... rather than defending somones right to access...

The cybertrafiquants cannabis seeds plead guilty

Christiane Desjardins
Press

The cybertrafiquants seed cannabis, arrested in Montreal during the first raid of its kind to occur in Canada in January 2006, have all declared guilty, a few weeks ago at the courthouse in Montreal. They were sentenced to fines and sentences in the community.

Only the head of this lucrative and illicit SMEs, who worked under the name Heaven's Stairway, Richard Hratch Baghdadlian, aged 41, has not yet received his award. Crown to seek a sentence of prison in his case.

Through eight websites, "the company" beamed around the world. She specializes in the sale of cannabis seeds viable names as evocative as Skunk, Two Killer Queen, Bubble Gum ... It also offered tips for successful planting, outsmart the police and kept blogs on the culture of husband. The computers were installed in the basement of a quadruplex, located at 12 059, Marsan in Cartierville, where lived elsewhere Baghdadlian and members of his family. It is also where we fulfill orders.

The seeds were selling 10 to $ 15 dollars, and there were on average 10 seeds per order. The RCMP estimates that Heaven's Stairway filled 100 to 150 orders per week. She has clients around the world, including Japan and Australia, but the majority residing in the United States. Buyers should send the payment as they spent their command. On the site, there was this warning: "For your own safety we suggest you never deliver the goods against your planting."

The network was active since at least 1997, but it was not until 2004 that drew the attention of the RCMP. The trigger was the discovery of a package filled with thousands of seed from the Netherlands. By letting the package, but according to him, the police rose up Baghdadlian.

The police had to intervene in disaster on the evening of 31 January 2006, because the network had been made aware of the interest that bore the RCMP. When the police struck, much of the equipment was dismantled and was placed in garbage bags. However, they seized 200 000 seeds, a little over U.S. $ 183 000, three gold, a Harley Davidson motorcycle ... accounting data found on the ground suggest that between 2000 and 2006, SMEs generated profits more than three million dollars.

The following individuals who were acting as employees, have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to traffic and export, and sentenced to fines and sentences in the community: Reitor Bento Manuel Fernandez, Geoffrey Chan, Theresa Rodrigues and Jamie Lee Shaw. Christopher Almond, who was absent, for its part must plead guilty on 14 October. Maria Cristina Civitillo, joint Baghdadlian, pleaded guilty to money laundering. She sentenced to a term of two years less a day to be served in the community, and a fine of $ 15 000.

Baghdadlian must return to court on October 14 and December 15, for the confiscation of his property and receive his sentence. Under the law, viable cannabis seeds are considered as drugs.

Good Luck RC! :ying:

Our man Baghdadlian pleaded guilty in Quebec superior court yesterday. Sentencing is forthcoming. The crown is asking for five years and the defence would like a sentence with no jail time. Hopefully R.C. will benefit from the same leniency that saw five of his associates get "suspended" sentence ( no jail time).

Interestingly, the RCMP has seized Baghdadlians websites (unnamed though presumably overgrow, cannabisworld, hempqc etc...) and will be using them to promote their anti-drug stance. Although the newspaper claims that " users who go to baghdadlians websites will be surprised to see the buffalo logo of the RCMP and an anti-drug message" this belated and useless attempt by the rcmp to capitalize on the heavens stairway bust has apparently not been implemented yet. A sad end to some legendary corners of the www.

A translation of the most pertinent points from an article in Montreals La Presse from Thursday February 19th 2009:

By André Cédilot

With the approval of a Quebec Court judge, the Federal Ministry of justice seized websites belonging to a Montreal trafficker who became a millionaire through the worldwide sale of cannabis seeds. Internet users who click on one of the seven websites will be surprised to see the buffalo logo of the RCMP.

" If we hadn't confiscated the websites anyone could have continued to use the domain names for trafficking purposes" explained prosecutor Caroline Cloutier. Evidence revealed that Richard Hratch Baghdadlian had made sales evaluated at 3,2 million dollars between march 2000 and september 2005.

Arrested in february 2006 after an unprecedented investigation, Baghdadlian 41, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy, importation and exportation of marijuana seeds and inciting people to consume cannabis. Five of his associates also plead guilty and received suspended sentences of six months to two years. It will be up to judge Jean-Pierre Boyer to establish Baghdadlians sentence. The Crown, represented by Maître François Blanchette wants a five year jail sentence while Maître Loris Cavaliere, for the defense, is asking for a sentence with no jail time ( "to be served in the community").

On the legal level this case was peculiar in that it is legal to plant a hemp seed, to produce clothing for example. But Maître Blanchette pointed out that "Since 1998 it is illegal to sell viable cannabis seeds, meaning those used to produce marijuana in a greenhouse or otherwise". In this case Baghdadlians websites and the nature of messages posted there where quite explicit in describing the nature of the diverse varieties of seeds he put on the world market.

The RCMPs investigation revealed that Baghdadlian would obtain seeds in bulk by (mail or courrier, same word in french...) from New-Zealand and Australia especially but also from the Netherlands and other European countries. After sorting them out in the basement of his Marsan street Quadruplex in Cartierville (a Montreal neighbourhood) he would pack them and ship them out to internet users who had placed an order. Most of his customers were in the U.S. and Europe.

(the last paragraph is just RCMP propaganda about how many joints could have been produced and unleashed on the streets thanks to RC and the Stairway)
