I went from decades with frequent periods of chronic lower back pain, excruciating shooting pains down my leg, tossing & turning at night to being 100% pain free from doing yoga each day.......

check out the Yoga instruction video for beginners on www.yoga.org.nz.

it's free!

http://www.yoga.org.nz/

http://www.yoga.org.nz/yoga_vidoes_download1.htm

download it, burn a CD

yoga will strengthen the muscle groups surrounding the injuried or worn out section of your spine as well as straighten and lengthen your spine which relieves pressure so the nerves dont get pinched and then inflamed causing nerve pain.....

I don't want to sound too dramatic ..but doing yoga has changed my life..my body feels younger and more supple, I've got a butt for the first time in my life and muscles on my stomach I've never seen before..lol..but I must admit I've slackened off recently...and have added an inch or two back on my waist!

yoga has lots of varied benefits ....it's def ideal for stoners who spend far too much time sitting in front of a computor...it calms the mind and increases your brain power, strengthens the mid section, teaches you how to breathe and corrects & lengthens your spine, improves posture etc etc...and is very safe so long as you keep firm and focused ..it's alot tougher and strength building than it looks!..you'll feel the benefits within a few weeks. You'll stand taller, breathe deeper and feel fresher...and alot more chilled out with an inner calm after each session

and better still you can do it at home, in your own time and being high while doing yogo is good too, but I find it affects my balance on some poses

I still do basically the same as the video, but after daily for 9 months I added head and hand stands to the routine..lotus position and I usually do a slower longer routine than the vid....I also stay longer in some poses and other days less time, but I always go back to the video every now for a more focused, correct workout ...

the head stand is a pose that must be approached slowly, gradually, carefully and with guidance from a good yoga teacher...there are several excellent sites with instructions for yoga poses too..each a little different ....with the head stand, the most important thing to do at first is to make sure that you take 99% of the weight of your body on your arms..then next day 98% and gradually over time as your body develops you will be able to spend minutes on your head...hand stands are good for strength too..

I cannot recommend this beginners yoga videol enough for anyone with spine problems...take it easy at first and I'm sure you will see improvement

take control of your own body.....don't allow doctors to drug you up on dope or cut you open or be lazy and let a chiropractor correct your spine..it's your body and your life - improve it youself naturally and effectively

if you have some stiffness in the lower back area, it helps to rub a (hot) linament there before following along with the video

Wow Chamba, its like your sitting here next to me .I have blood tests and xrays this week,am pushing for a cat scan tho,so i know exactly how to go about it(recovery).i was in a bad acccident, abouta year ago, recovered wellabout 5-6 weeks ago i started to feel something down my left side(base of spine/left buttock,it wasnt painful, only uncomfortable.I started doing some weird shoulder stretching/twisting,and i thik i done something to myself.Went to the doc,he prescribed amyltriptaline(which i never took),last week it got so bad i thought id twisted my insides that much i thought i was gonna die, firedup to accident an emergency an the doc there gave me ibubrufen for again a sore back.went back to my doc on fri,an all this is now arranged.Man,yoga and chillin seems right up my street, thanks for taking the time to write mate cheers

many doctors and chiropractors don't like yoga "you'll damage your neck" they say and would rather write you prescription for a stronger and then stronger pain killer or book you into operating theatre...

12 months ago I was where you are now ....I did a search online for back pain & spine operations and found out that most times this dangerous surgery did not alleviate any pain!!!....my sciatic nerve was so painful the last time my back "went", I was house bound for a month, that when I started walking again .. I found I had developed a slight case of foot drop (the foot lands like a stroke patient's walk, sort of floppy, a fraction off in the timing)...that was the worst and last time I had a back problem...

and then Bubbleman suggested checking out this yoga site....I did!....I've had a few back twinges in the last year, but usually when I've been slack with practice...the foot drop problem went away in the first few weeks, back pain virtually stopped on the second or third day I practiced along with the video

so ,,,my suggestion is .....before they bone and slice you up or give you a new wonder drug ...give yoga a try! take control of your own body!..repair, correct and strengthen your own self with a daily series of yoga positions perfected over 4000 years and yoga is so compatible with cannabis, esp vaping

here's my favourite quote from the video

the "boat" pose

"Keep challenging yourself to stay in this pose longer. If you find the stimulation of the midsection becoming intense, just persist with it, knowing your mind has ultimate control over the body

hey bigj, i currently recoverin from back surgery, had a herniated disk at the S1/L5 area. my disk had a blowout, and the goo from inside the disk was protrudin 1mm out onto my nerve. my Doc prescribed vicodin and therapy, which did nothin but aggravate my condition to the point i couldnt walk without a walker.

when i first went in, i was still workin, within a month i couldnt walk without support. i demanded a MRI, and it revealed the blown out disk.

im a heavy equip operator, and sit a shit load all day in a bouncin machine. for the last 5 years on the road, lots of drivin. anyway, lack of exercise and age pretty much ruined my back. since the operation, walkin and back strengthenin exercises has made a huge diff in how i feel everyday.

from all the time i was fucked up awaitin the operation, i have incurred some nerve damage on my left side. i get that club foot thing goin myself even now.

my backs great at this point. somethin you might wanna check out is the piriformus(sp) muscle that wraps around your butt. right now thats givin me the most problems. as its been outta commision for sometime, and is a mofo to get back to normal. if that muscle has been unused for sometime it will tighten and press along the nerve goin down your leg in and around your hip. lots of stretchin of this muscle has improved my condition some, and is still tight as all get out, especially in the am.

if you have a serious shootin pain down your leg, i would get a MRI to see whats up in there before doin any kind of exercise. you dont wanna aggrivate somethin that could be worse then you think

also dont let um do a epidural bro. at least for me it was the most painful experience of my life. i was cryin like a bitch beggin for um to stop. shit was barbaric to say the least. i think it has contributed to it takin so long to recover, i been out since Feb.

your back is nothin to fuck around with, dont try nothin to get it looked at, i mean it, make sure you just have a swollen disk or that piriformus muscle thats given ya problems. if you have a herniated disk, you can cause plenty of other problems tryin to exercise. once the disk extrudes its insides, no exercise is gonna fix that.

exercise and proper posture will make a huge diff if all ya have is swollen/ inflammed tissue. id have it looked at by a surgeon, chiropractors are scary,

Oh man MrPurple,-the piriformus(sp) muscle that wraps around your butt.THATS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE MATE,its no a shooting pain, more like twisting(the amount of twisting i do its unsurprising)feels lke its pulled my gut to fuck, dude, feels like am sitting on a muscle on my butt, told the doc this,he said it was nerve damage i was feeling, hence the amyltriptalene, dude, gonna read up on that muscle right NOW...

with age and bad posture, our spines compact..often pinching a nerve causing excruciating pain

yoga will lengthen the spine, straighten it, add suppleness and build muscles that support the spine.....releases tension etc

pain killers won't help..apart from give some temporary relief ..and all they do is mask the pain without curing the cause of the pain

chiropractors temporarily correct without building focus, support or strength..or a relaxed body and mind.

spine surgery is great for doctor's income..but is often a hit and miss thing...most patients are talked into a 2nd and 3rd operation after the earlier one(s) don't help..(don't believe me?...do Google search!)

yoga will make you stand taller and will take pressure off the inflamed pinched nerve...

try this....lay on a warm floor, make sure your body is relaxed, balanced try to lengthen your whole body....and then have a person at either end of you slowly and firmly pull your feet and hands very gentle and in unison while keeping you in a straight line ...relax as they stretch you....breathe evenly and deeply and concentrate on your spine lengthening...now ask the "pullers" to gently stretch you while holding your ankles and from under your head...if the back pain is alleviated while doing this type of gentle stretching (emphasis on GENTLE and keeping the neck and spine straight and inline) then you will definitely benefit from a daily yoga practice!

and naturally ...make sure to ask your doctor before attempting any form a exerciseif you have severe back problems or have had surgery recently

yoga combined with 30+ minutes per day of fast walking or do something that is sustained and makes you sweat....chew your food until it become a fluid...drink lots of water....eat fresh food like apples, celery, carrots, bananas etc...and you'll amze yourself how fit, relaxed, alert and switched on and "cut" you will become
