S2 Seeds From S1 GG4..Is It Worth It??

i have 2 wonderfull plants(different phenos) that i want to make some seeds from.
The plants are from S1 seeds of the original cut gg4 without hermi trait(i believe so :whistling:)
well,as the title says..is it worth it??

sure, go for it if you like the phenos you have and they didn't show herm tendency. I believe a s1 will show segregation like a f2 and tom hill said that selfing down the line will speed up inbreeding depression. S2 should be ok, you may get some interesting plants...btw I havent done this so take what I say with grain of salt.

The only thing I would say is be observant. Wasn’t GG4 the result of a hermie cross? The trait may be lurking even if it doesn’t show in the GG4 or its progeny being used as parent(s).

I would definitely make some S2 and see what you get. Every selfing is reducing heterozygousity by 50% on average, so you are moving towards pure breeding plants. I would also cross one S1 pheno with your other pheno as that could yield some interesting offspring.

Good luck :)
