Runoff problem

Hi, I got a couple of different autoflowering strains, all in day 32 since seed. Doing quite bad bcuz of lack of nutes, but that's not the point.

Normally when I water, I put anywhere between 600-900ml / plant and get ~30%runoff, but today, I only watered with 2-300 and got 30%. The weird thing is the pots were quite light so I'm not thinking about overwatering.

How can this be explained?

if soil was too dry it tends to run down sides of pots and not be absorbed much.

...or watering too quickly (inundating), the hydraulic pressure can force a 'stream' through one part of the medium and leave the rest dry...ime, ~600ml is too much. depending on pot size...i use about half of what you're using in 7 gal containers, no runoff.
