Is it a window ac or is it a split system? A window ac might look a little suspect, but a split system could be explained off as a heat pump. But like some have already said, it might just be easier(and cheaper) to just draw in cold air from outside.

Make sure the AC of your choice cuts in below 68F outside temperature.

Many won't function below 68F.

I'd crack a window or duct in some cold air. There is no reason to use AC if it's cold outside.

We're talking about a window unit, right? Aren't some of them heaters too? Do they sound all that different when they're heating or cooling? Mine doesn't heat but it does have a fan setting, and that doesn't sound much different from cooling. It also has a cooling setting where the fan doesn't run constantly, and it's a lot quieter that way.

Or you could run a portable AC such as the one pictured below, depending on the model they need either one or two hoses for air exchange and that's it. The hose(s) can be installed very stealth and look like dryer vents.
They work great as dehumidifiers as well!

If you go portable A/C.... keep in mind you'll need a bigger unit than a split or window that would do the job. They're not as efficient.

Adding an additional extractor fan to the ducting, just before it exits the building, will help increase the efficiency of the unit.

Stay Safe! :tree:

p.s. I run an A/C unit 24/7/365 that's a window unit. Be sure to pull the drain plug before the first freeze, especially if it's a "Slinger Fan" setup. Don't want your fan blade hitting ice! (Don't forget to put it back in during the summer for maximum cooling as well.)
If anyone asks.... that room has old and inefficient computer equipment in it that needs to be kept cool. It's a pain in the ass and I don't get paid enough for it and I'm thinking about telling the guy to shove... Blah blah blah blah blah. *eyes glaze over and the smile and nod begins*

yay. yes most these days are heaters too. =D no worries. TO be safe keep it on low setting... and insulate the bad boy all the way around.. to get rid of vibrations...

But I just keep mine low.. You cant tell its on. Its 2cnd story tho.. Your plants might suffer but keep it low.

Oh and they are right window units suffer during the winter... I found this out as my temps were rocketing.. But I fixed it..

I figured whats happening is the thermometer is telling the unit the air intake temp is fine and chilly so no worries to turn on the condensor.. I guess this is because its a open piece of metal and the air intake thermometer in the front is getting cooled down by the outside temps... touch ur window in the winter its cold.. They dont insulate well...

SO what I did is I puleed the thermometer probe off and pointed it more into my room... Then I added a CFL light bulb into the mix and put the probe next to the warm light... WALA.

But u might want to try adding copper to the probe and extending it into the room ur are trying to keep at a certain temp..,\

Good luck

Also know that a incoming air temp lower than 70 is bad for the plants. I like the consistence of my ac. Plus its not cold out too often.. where I live people run their ac in the winter..
