How much watts about does a HDTV use up? 42".

I wish I had more advice for you but im only running 1200w.

All i can say is dont get greedy, and if you're safe and pay your bill on time you shouldnt have to much reason to worry.

Norcal, we need a little more info. I assume that the bedroom has a 15A line. Is the extension cord coming from another room with a 15A line in it? Are there any other rooms on that same line? What is the total amperage of your home service? Some old homes only have 60A or 100A. What you are wanting adds up to around 40A at 110V. You are looking at some major fire hazards if you try to add that much with existing lines. If you have 100A service or more, you need to run a sub panel to your bedroom and run several breakers off it. Otherwise, you are looking at power outages or fire.

You need to know what your main service is rated for .I run a 20 amp circuit for each 1 K light that will cover the fans and pumps also usally.Becareful

i will check on that information such as main service rating, and what amperage line going to the bedroom is... where do i look to find out main service rating? what do i do to find out amperage to my bedroom?

also how much will a sub panel cost?

thanks pops for the warnings....

I don't mean to be harsh, but it appears you know little about electrical wiring. I would go to a library, book store, lowe's or home depot and get a diy electrical wiring book. They have many to choose from. You will learn so much from one of these books and they will give you some piece of mind. I bet you only have one circuit in that bedroom, maybe two. You need to learn to map out circuits. You will need separate circuits for each 1KW light. Keep it safe.

Yes, get your electrician friend to install the sub panel!'

With a nice sub panel, you could easily run 3400 watts of HID, plus fans, pumps, and an AC if you wanted to. Also, you could wire your ballasts for 240v. Then you could get an HPH-4 light controller, hardwire it into a 240v breaker on your subpanel, and have some safe amperage.
Stay safe.
